What is the best printer for home use?

With so many printers out there, from such a wide range of brands and manufacturers, choosing the perfect machine for you can be a pretty tricky task.

And when it comes to selecting a printer specifically for the home, there are a number of different things to consider before making a firm decision.

Typically speaking, those who are looking to buy a home printer tend to go in search of something sleeker and more compact than what you’d find in a busy workforce or office. And large, multifunction devices are usually a total non-starter.

So, what really is the best printer for home use?

Of course, when it comes down to it, this all depends on the person buying the machine. We don’t all want the same thing. However, there are certain features, models and manufacturers that have proven to be particularly favourable with home users.

In general, if your printer is mostly for occasional use, printing the odd university document and so on, then we would advise investing in an inkjet machine. Inkjet printers usually boast a lower initial cost than a laser machine.

The downside of these cheaper devices is that they do technically cost more to run. You’ll generally find that the cost of replacement cartridges for small, low-cost inkjet printers are relatively high, and don’t last as long as those for heavy-duty machines. However, you won’t be blowing cash on fancy features and settings that you don’t need, and chances are, due to the low volume output, you won’t need to replace the inks regularly anyway…

Another important factor to consider when buying a home printer is the type of printing that you will be doing. Will you be printing lots of coloured documents, or will everything be in black and white? If all of your prints are to be in mono, then it may be worth considering a laser machine instead. Stand-alone mono laser printers start at around £50, whereas mono inkjets start at approximately £150 – quite a big difference!

So, you’ve narrowed down your search to the type of printer that you want, but what manufacturer should you go for?

This bit is a little more complicated, as there are a number of different brands that can cater to your needs. Brother, Canon, HP and Epson each manufacture some fantastic high quality, machines, and at some great prices, too.

Take the Epson Expression Home XP-322 for instance. Priced at just £75.00 including VAT, and complete with WiFi Connectivity and copy/scan capabilities, this machine is an absolute bargain – and it looks great, too.

And what about the HP OfficeJet Pro 6230? This A4 colour inkjet is a total steal at just £57.61 inc VAT. It’s sleek, fast, AirPrint compatible – the list goes on!

I searched for advice on printers and found your website page What is the best printer for home use?

In the last paragraph it suggests heading for your new website but does not provide any link or the name of the website. Not very helpful.
