LUCEDALE, Mississippi - George County Sheriff Dean Howell said today that a would be burglar broke into the wrong house just after midnight Saturday.

Howell said Alex Hamblin, of Crenshaw Road, called the sheriff's office about 12:30 a.m. and reported he was holding a burglar at gunpoint.

As deputies arrived on scene, they found that Hamblin had walked the suspect, 28-year-old Wilton Grady "W.G." Dickerson, to the front yard sidewalk to meet authorities.

Hamblin told the deputies that he heard a loud noise downstairs, so he grabbed his gun and found the suspect standing in the kitchen.

Initially, Hamblin thought the intruder was his son, as the suspect turned around, Hamblin noticed Dickerson was wearing his wife's coat.

The homeowner ordered Dickerson to remove the coat, place his hands in the air and get down on the floor, and he complied.

Deputies recovered clonazepham, a benzodiazepine drug often used to treat epilepsy and anxiety disorders, from the suspect's pockets. The pills were prescribed to Dickerson's mother, authorities said.

A change purse, $10 in cash, an ink cartridge and sunglasses belonging to the homeowner's wife were also found on Dickerson, they said.

Dickerson reported that didn't know what he was doing in the Hamblins' home, nor did he know them. He said he had left his truck somewhere but could not remember where.

The Lucedale man was arrested and charged with possession of a medication without a prescription and burglary. He was being held Monday afternoon at George Regional Jail, awaiting an initial court appearance.

Howell said the burglary is not connected to the rash of burglaries committed in the last 2 months in George County, although deputies have made multiple arrests in those cases.

The names of those suspects are being withheld while authorities chase down additional suspects, the sheriff said.
