Why did you choose the Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (AODA) Associate program? I have been surrounded by addiction my entire life. I understand the struggle and challenges that come with addiction. Substance abuse is a real problem, and it isn’t going to go away. I want to help people learn how to help themselves.

What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding? I am learning the skills needed to help make a difference in someone’s life. The fact that I could have a positive impact on someone’s life is rewarding. My classes are helping me grow as an individual and as a professional.

Why did you choose Fox Valley Technical College? When I enrolled, I was working full-time and raising three children. I needed a school that offered class flexibility and affordability. FVTC offers a variety of course options, including many online options. The class schedule fit into my busy routine well. I also knew the AODA internship program was unique and successful.

How did Fox Valley Technical College help you change your life? I am excited to go to work every day! I have never been able to say that before. FVTC gave me the opportunity to learn and train in a field I am passionate about. I am optimistic about my future.

What type of job do you expect to find after graduation? I am currently an intern at Winnebago Mental Health Institute and I love every minute of it. I hope to one day find an inpatient position in a similar facility. Mental health is fascinating and I would like to continue to work in a dual-diagnosis facility.
