3 Things We Learned From Notre Dame’s 69-66 Win Over Boston College

Playground basketball, weird and awesome flexes, and a coronation.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish got their first ACC win on the year on Saturday by beating the Boston College Eagles, 69-66. Yes... nice. We’ve already made it perfectly clear that this season was going to be a rough one for the Irish, and Saturday was no different despite a much better ending.

6 MAN BASKETBALL

The Irish have already had setbacks on its roster this season with the transfer of Elijah Burns, and season ending injuries to Robby Carmody and Rex Pflueger. Those losses were highlighted against BC when T.J. Gibbs was unable to play due to sickness and Juwan Durham was out with an ankle injury. Notre Dame was forced to play with only 6 scholarship players.

It was pretty noticeable as the only player to come off the bench to help was Nikola Djogo. Prentiss Hubb, D.J. Harvey, Nate Laszewski, John Mooney, and Dane Goodwin played the massive bulk of the game. They gutted it out in a playground type effort that was just incredible for an ACC game.

YOU CAN’T BEAT US AT OUR WORST SO YOU’LL NEVER BEAT US AT OUR BEST

This was the 12th victory in a row for Notre Dame over Boston College in basketball. It’s a dominant showing, and one that should have ended on Saturday — all things considered. BC couldn’t get the job done against a mediocre, young, and light team. How in the hell are they ever going to win another game against Notre Dame in the future?

BOW TO YOUR NEW KING... JOHN MUTTON

John Mooney will never be mistaken for former Irish great Bonzie Colson, but he is giving Notre Dame that player to lean on during a season. He’s also racking up double-doubles a lot like Colson. Mooney got his 8th double-double on the season with 27 points and 12 rebounds. He’s been as solid and steady as we can ask for in a season that is anything but solid and steady.

Here’s the crown Majestic Mutton... it’s heavy.
