We’ve seen an absolutely amazing start to National Smile Month 2018 so far. So many of you across the country have been holding events, going into schools and running competitions – doing a fantastic job to help us raise awareness of good oral health.

Some of you may remember during last year’s campaign, we had what you might call a “National Smile Month Soundtrack”, for the very first time.  It was made by the wonderful people from Health Matters Education (HME), who provided us with two official campaign songs. For this year’s campaign, we’ve got another one to share with you!

HME are a group who are dedicated to improving the health, fitness and well-being of children across the country and their original song “Got my toothpaste, got my brush” is the official song for National Smile Month 2018.

It is a song which does a fantastic job of helping young children understand why it’s important to brush and helps them begin to develop an understanding of how to do so properly. But don’t take my word for it, have a listen to the song for yourself!

Got my toothpaste got my brush

And if you want to sing-a-long, you can find the lyrics here

Whether you’re a parent, oral health promoter, teacher or childminder, you can use this song to bring oral health education to children throughout National Smile Month and beyond.

There is no reason that children should wait till they become adults to start understanding what good oral health is and its value. In fact, the earlier children get into good oral hygiene habits the easier it tends to be for them to maintain throughout the rest of their lives. These songs are a wonderful way to start that journey to a great oral health routine.

The song is available to purchase as part of an educational pack from the lovely people at Health Matters Education, with a percentage of the proceeds sent to support National Smile Month.

Over the course of the month we aim to deliver our three key oral health messages.

  • Brush your teeth last thing at night and at least one other time during the day, with a fluoride toothpaste.

  • Cut down on how much sugary foods and drinks you have, and how often you have them.
  • Visit the dentist regularly – as often as they recommend.

Let us know what you think of our National Smile Month song and don’t forget to let us know how you’re getting involved with this year’s campaign.
