They All Fall Down: A Staged Reading

Thursday, September 29 at the Murphy Auditorium (50 E. Erie) 6:00-7:30 pm Buy Tickets $20 Members || $25 General Audience

In 2001, nearly 30 years after his death, Richard Nickel’s legacy as an impassioned photographer and preservationist took on a new life with a play called “They All Fall Down: The Richard Nickel Story” at Chicago’s Lookingglass Theatre. Adapted from writer and photographer Richard Cahan’s 1994 book of the same name and the letters Nickel wrote to friends, family, and colleagues, the play tells Nickel’s story through his own words. As a complement to “Capturing Sullivan: What Richard Nickel Saw,” readings from this play will show a more personal side to Nickel, offer a new lens on the work of Louis Sullivan, and amplify the urgency of the historic preservation movement.

The program will include staged readings from “They All Fall Down” by Chicago actors, along with a conversation between Richard Cahan, director Jessica Thebus, actors Andrew White and Alfred Wilson, and photographer Michael Brosilow.

Note: Once you have registered for the event, you will receive a discount code for $5 off a visit to the Museum, good through October 2. We invite you to visit the Museum the day of the performance, but the Museum will close at 5:00pm that day.

The performance will be held next door in the Murphy Auditorium at 50 E Erie. Doors to the Murphy open at 5:30.
