Jackson County Taxpayers
Appointments are now required for tax waivers, personal property tax bill corrections and filing of personal property declarations at City Hall. Appointments can be made online.
Payment of correct property tax bills (no changes needed to bill) and non-tax transactions do not require an appointment.
The Saturday Farmers Market Returns to Downtown
With relaxed restrictions on outdoor gatherings, the Farmers Market can now return to downtown.
Visit the Farmers Market every Wednesday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon in the parking lot at Second and Douglas Streets in Downtown Lee’s Summit. Free public parking is available in the City Hall parking garage at the corner of Second and Green Streets.
The Gateway to Downtown
The City is designing infrastructure improvements for the Third Street corridor from Blue Parkway to Jefferson Street, a project approved by voters with the passage of the 2017 sales tax initiative.
The overview, conceptual plans and project exhibits are available for public comment. The deadline to comment is June 1.

Rockin' Summer
Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce its summer season at the Legacy Park Amphitheater. The lineup includes four tribute acts playing the music of some of the most well-known entertainers of all time.
City Council Update
Airport Business Plan. City Council adopted a resolution approving the Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport’s updated business plan. The current business plan was developed in 2008. The City worked with consultants to identify the airport’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. They then took those findings and developed a plan to provide guidance for airport operations and growth. Major recommendations included the attraction of corporate aviation, hangar development, new branding, non-aviation property development and improved terminal amenities and services.
Colbern Road Improvements. City Council adopted an ordinance approving two agreements related to improvements to Colbern Road. The City received $8 million from the Governor’s Transportation Cost Share Program and $3,975,000 from the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission to reconstruct Colbern Road between M-350 Highway and Douglas Street. The improvements would include additional lanes, storm water management, street lighting, curb, sidewalks, a shared-use path and bridge replacement. The project would enhance safety, expand capacity and promote economic development in the area.
Beekeeping Regulations. City Council adopted an ordinance approving new beekeeping regulations and adding a fee for beekeeping. Among the updated regulations, no hive, stand or apiary shall be placed closer than 25 feet to the property line of an adjoining property; closer than 50 feet to another house or building; and closer than 50 feet to the nearest edge of a public street or sidewalk. Anyone keeping bees must obtain a license, which costs $10 per property.
National Economic Development Week. Mayor Bill Baird issued a proclamation recognizing National Economic Development Week, which takes place from May 9 through May 15.
Water Meter Change-Out Program
Water Utilities is beginning the process of replacing all residential water meters. The new water meters will increase customer service and operational effiency. Yellow door hangers will notify residents when their meter replacement has been completed. This program is estimated to continue through June 2022. Questions? Call 969.1900.

The City is looking for a part-time audiovisual technician to work in the evenings. The position facilitates and provides audiovisual technical support for City meetings, including live broadcasts. The salary starts at $16 per hour.

Development Services is looking to fill the position of field engineering inspector. This individual would report to the engineering inspections manager and would inspect work related to public and private infrastructure, in particular related to private development and right-of way activities.
