“Patty Gayle and the Legend of Kingsley” is a fairytale set in Kingsley Lake, Florida, in 1960. It is the journey of Patty Gayle, a twelve-year-old awkward girl, who doesn’t think she has much purpose in life until she is given a key that unlocks possibilities of which she could only dream. The key leads her on an adventure to a magical land that she thought only existed in her grandmother’s stories. While on her quest, Patty Gayle realizes some of her fantasies, but must strengthen her faith in God, gain confidence in herself, overcome her own fears and emotions, and defeat a sinister sorcerer before the inhabitants of Kingsley can be saved.

I began creating this story in my own childhood. Once my fingers actually touched the keys, it took six years to complete. My own memories of Kingsley Lake helped me to make this story as realistic as possible. The Holy Spirit and my mother's memories guided me through the rest. My prayer is that you, as the reader, can and will relate to Patty Gayle and the quest she takes to overcome her fear and strengthen her faith. As an adult, enjoy the simplicity of this story, read it out loud to your children, and please, by all means, try the hot chocolate! It really is good! When young Patty Gayle's grandmother tells her that a special key she has will unlock amazing secrets, Patty never imagines what incredible adventures are in store for her. Unfortunately, her grandmother has a stroke and eventually succumbs to death before she can reveal those secrets to Patty and she is left to find and unlock those secrets on her own. The mystery that unravels in the pages following is truly an exciting turn of events full of secrets and danger that will keep the reader coming back for more as Patty discovers the existence of the land of Kingsley and the amazing destiny that she holds in that world.

I thoroughly enjoyed "Patty Gayle and the Legend of Kingsley" by Cynthia Willow. Cynthia's description of both the characters and the world around them is vivid and will leave lasting pictures in the reader's mind. Patty is a believable character who wrestles with her situation and learns a great deal about what it means to have faith. I found this to be a fun read that all ages would enjoy, but would be particularly geared toward tweens and teens. There is a Christian message throughout the book that deals with the issue of walking by faith, not by sight, that enhances the book and the characters in it. Overall, many readers will be blessed reading through this book.

A neat twist on a family legend

Being a mountain man and one of Scott-Irish decent I love a good family tall tale. Mrs. Willow does not let us down. From the very begining in which she states part of this tale is true and part is legend you have to figure out which is which. I was hooked. The tale is partly the true story of her mother as a young girl in depression era Florida and part is magical tale of fantasy and adventure. I think any reader will be pleased with the mix of both Florida in the sixties and the Magical world of Kingsley that resides in the middle of the Lake of the same name. Discovering the way into the magical world and Patty Gayle's adventures, both in Florida and in Kingsley make for a great read. I have heard a sequel is in the works and I for one can't wait to see how Patty Gayle is able to return to the world of Kingsley. A great little read and well deserving of five stars. To be honest I wish I could give it more.

I found this a rather fascinating story, and I enjoyed the storyline and the concept of Kingsley. I feel that this book was directed at a younger audience, and thought it was a bit simplistic at times. The main character was intriguing and realistic, and I found some of the situations Patty Gayle got in quite relatable. Though I felt like some of the secondary characters could've been fleshed out better, as there were some characters that I would've liked to know more about, the main characters were well rounded. Overall, the story was done well, and I am honestly looking forward to reading the sequel to this book.

A good friend of mine sent me the link for this great book when it was made available to purchase on Amazon, since we both grew up going to Kingsley Lake, which is the fabulous setting for this sweet tale.I believe it was written for children but even as an adult, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I couldn't put it down. I'm now reading it again as I read it to the two young girls I babysit. They love it as well!
I loved everything about this book.I was able to relate to Patty's insecurities.I've been trying to think of what else to say, but the best way to put my thoughts in word is to say that this book is a MUST READ and that it is AWESOME!!!!
I'm now reading the sequel, "Return To Kingsley" and it's awesome as well. Thank you, Cynthia, for such great writing!

What a wonderful story for the young reader who enjoys a good mystery! For that matter, great for all ages! Reminiscent of my own childhood reading, though I can’t recall ever running across a story quite like Patty Gayle. It has everything to spark a youngster’s imagination - magical bracelets and crowns, dragons, fairies, talking animals, a villain. What an adventure!

Through a deathbed gift from her grandmother, Patty is transported to a parallel world, where she learns that she is the one chosen to save this magical place from an evil sorcerer.

It’s a captivating story of a young girl (at that awkward age of 12) overcoming her fears through her faith in God, to fulfill her destiny. It is a Christian story, but the author lays out Biblical truths without being preachy. Great read-aloud bedtime story!

I, too, grew up in Lake Butler, Florida. I have known the author pretty much all my life. And I loved reading this book with my children. We have spent many summers on Kingsley Lake. And to see it turned into a majestical place was awesome! I read this book at bedtime at night to my children. And they hung on every word and looked forward to bedtime every night to find out what was coming next. This story was awesome! And I loved how her faith in the Lord carried her through the tests and obstacles that she faced. This was an overall wonderful story. I highly recommend everyone read this book. And if you have children, read it together as a family. They will LOVE it! I look forward to reading many more books by Cynthia! As do my children.

What a fun book was this to read! Each chapter leads you through another part of the adventure... and what an adventure it is! This is the story of an ordinary girl doing extraordinary things. Fairy queens and talking animals bring fun to this book. This book weaves through a fun multi-step adventure without being complicated. Although it would be great for preteens and young teens, it's a fun adventure for anyone! The chapters are short, so it might be good for a bedtime story lasting over several days for the young ones. I was given a copy of this book for my honest review. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait to start the second book!
