Scramble Fore the Greyhounds
Nearly 30 players competed in the 2nd annual Scramble Fore the Greyhounds staged at Tampa Tennis at Hillsborough Community College.
Money raised was directed to support the Greyhound Pets of America and their kennel that houses ex-racing greyhounds.
Emily Signoracci and Debbie Dawson defended their women’s doubles title and Xiao Zhang and Barry Franklin won the mixed doubles.
Morning Star School Benefits from Tennis
This year’s 29th annual tennis tournament fundraiser netted nearly $18,000 for the Morning Star School in Hillsborough County. The school services elementary and junior high age students with learning disabilities, autism and other learning challenges with hope of providing academic and life skills to achieve greater success and happiness in life.
Nearly 120 players competed in 136 events in the three-day tournament staged at Carrollwood Country Club under the direction of tennis professional Alan Williams.
Among the women’s, men’s and mixed doubles winners was double winner John Cotey, who claimed the 3.5 mixed title with Cherie Smith and the 3.5 men’s title with Erik Hajek.
Other winners were named in 4.0 and 4.5 mixed and men’s divisions and 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 women’s.
Pinellas Claims Ultimate Tennis Honors
The Ultimate Tennis Spring Flex Singles Playoffs named six champions in the women’s competition and 12 in men’s.
Of those, Pinellas won five of the women’s and seven of the men’s, including Sandy Trail in women’s 5.0 and Jonathan Sucupira men’s 6.0.
The summer season is in full swing in singles, but there’s time to register for mixed and adult doubles.

KC’s Kamp for Kids Wins PADL League
A victory was scored for KC’s Kamp for Kids when PADL, a 26-team weekly women’s doubles league in Pinellas, chose to donate their league funds to the 501©3 volunteer organization that is devoted to spreading the love of tennis to underserved children in the St. Petersburg area, as well as to bringing tennis back to the public courts to provide more opportunities for all to participate.
This summer, KC’s Kamp for Kids, established in 2014 in memory of Kathy “KC” Casteel and her love of tennis, will provide 25 scholarships to children to attend a five-day summer camp at area facilities. In the fall, KC’s Kamp for Kids will provide after-school tennis at area community centers with goal of reaching over 200 children.
