Lester Weakens to a Tropical Storm As It Heads Away from Hawaii
November 3, 2020
UPDATED By WeatherBug Sr. Meteorologist, James West and Mike Hertz
It looks like Hawaii was spared as Tropical Storm Lester passed to their north without causing too much trouble. However, dangerous surf is still possible across the island across Oahu and Kauai through Sunday.
As of 11 p.m. HST (5 a.m. EDT), Tropical Storm Lester was located near 23.3 N and 158.0 W, or about 140 miles north of Honolulu, Hawaii, and about 125 miles northeast of LIhue. Lester is packing top sustained winds of 65 mph, and it is moving west-northwest at 15 mph. Lester still remains a rather strong tropical storm. Lester's minimum central pressure is 998 mb, or 29.47 inches of mercury.
Lester will track across the warm waters of the Pacific gradually weakening over the next couple of days. It could still bring dangerous rip currents, large surf and swells to the northern shores of Kauai and Oahu today.
Stay with WeatherBug for the latest on Hurricane Lester through the remainder of the holiday weekend.
