Thorpe, Taylor, Wilson & Holder Secure CAA Football Weekly Honors
CAA Football's Week 10 Player of the Week honorees are featured below. A link to each school's release will be added to each player's name over the course of the week as they become available.
Offensive Player of
the Week: Justin Thorpe, Junior, QB, James Madison
Thorpe came up clutch off the bench for a Dukes squad that helped enhance its chances at a coveted playoff spot with a 31-7 road win over Maine. The junior signal caller finished with 16 carries for 111 yards and a pair of scores to complement a contest in which he went an efficient 9-for-12 for 108 yards through the air with a third touchdown, no interceptions and no sacks. Thorpe led JMU to an overall dominant day on the offensive end, as the team tallied 476 yards of total offense, an 11-for-20 third-down conversion rate and a nearly 15-minute advantage in time of possession.
Defensive Player of
the Week: Cooper Taylor, Senior, DB, Richmond
Taylor continues to solidify his candidacy as one of the nation's 20 players named to the Buck Buchanan Watch List. The senior standout turned in 13 tackles to lead a Richmond defense that shut out Rhode Island, 39-0, and allowed the Rams just 189 yards of total offense on Saturday. Taylor was not done there, however, forcing a fumble to go with two quarterback hurries and a pass breakup on the evening.
Special Teams Player
of the Week: Albert Wilson, Junior, WR/KR, Georgia State
Wilson had an explosive Saturday on special teams, punctuating an afternoon in which he amassed 156 yards on three kickoff returns when he collected a kick four yards deep in the end zone and took it back 100 yards for a third-quarter score. Wilson's return was the longest ever in Panthers history and represents his second career touchdown return following his 97-yard score at Alabama in 2010. He would set a second school record in the final frame with a thrilling 93-yard touchdown reception from freshman quarterback Ben McLane. Wilson, who would finish the day with 296 all-purpose yards, leads CAA Football with 1,645 all-purpose yards through 10 games this season.
Rookie of the Week: Emmanuel Holder, Freshman, FB, Towson
Holder could not have chosen a more opportune time to have a breakout game, unleashing for his first two collegiate touchdowns to lead the Tigers to their second-straight road win over a nationally-ranked opponent on the road at Delaware. On a pivotal second-quarter fourth-down play, the true freshman found the end zone on a 25-yard pass from Grant Enders with less than a minute remaining in the half before turning the trick once again on a two-yard touchdown pass that put Towson ahead, 27-24, in the final minute of regulation.
