CoM SSA resources and partner's expertise, key components to support cities in their response to COVID-19

In only a few months, the COVID-19 pandemic has taken a significant toll, personally and professionally, on populations across the world, including Africa. Cities are at the frontline as the pandemic unfolds. City networks like CoM SSA, GCoM, C40, ICLEI, UCLGA, CEMR, and others are adapting their approaches to address the pandemic and find ways to continue supporting their member cities during this time.

Within the framework of the Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharan Africa, this report, produced by GIZ, presents a number of measures taken by African cities to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.



Bamako proves its engagement for climate during the COVID-19 crisis

The District of Bamako demonstrated its continuous engagement against climate change by holding its first SEACAP steering committee by video-conference for some, in an actual meeting room for others, all respecting sanitary measures imposed by the COVID-19 crisis.

TSÉVIÉ, the example of a committed hummingbird with CoM SSA on tackling Climate Change

New webinar series to guide city leaders in building resilience amid and beyond COVID-19

Building resilience in African cities in these uncertain times are forcing us to discover and implement new and innovative ways of working, as good practices emerge and signify a new normal.


Strengthening networks to exchange knowledge and best practices is key to building resilient cities during and after global crises 


This was the common message from the speakers at the launch event of our webinar “Lessons from past and present crises”.


Cameroon - Doumé validates its climate plan


On 19 June 2020, the validation workshop of the Sustainable Energy Access and Climate Action Plan (SEACAP) was held in the proceedings room of the town hall of Doumé, municipality of the East region of Cameroon.

The French Agency for Development (AFD) has just launched a call for Expression of Interest in order to select candidates interested in the elaboration of a study on gender mainstreaming in the development of urban street lighting projects.

Deadline for submission of interest, in French or English: 10/07/2020 at 12h00 (CET)
