A rendering of the new Canyon Climb Adventure ropes challenge course coming to WonderWorks at Destiny USA.Syracuse, NY -- Daredevils willing to walk the walk will be able to strut out 70-feet over the Canyon area of Destiny USA, as the upside-down WonderWorks entertainment attraction adds what is being called “the world’s largest ropes challenge course” to its list of wonders.
The Canyon Climb Adventure attraction will be suspended from the ceiling of the expansion of Destiny, where the science-oriented interactive amusement facility WonderWorks is being built on the third level.
Participants will walk, precariously, 70 feet off the Canyon floor, harnessed to the steel beams. Eighty-five people at a time can climb the various levels of the ropes course.
“This is the largest one we’ve ever put in, with it being suspended from the ceiling, said Todd Buchko, the general manager of Destiny’s WonderWorks, as he stood outside the facility now under construction. “The experience is mind-blowing: The excitement, the thrill, the adventure, it’s nothing else like you’ve ever seen.”
The three-level Canyon Climb Adventure is being custom-designed for Destiny by Ropes Courses Inc., which has partnered with WonderWorks at its other four locations down South. This will be the first WonderWorks rope course facility indoors and suspended from a ceiling.
Work on the course will begin Oct. 15. It is scheduled to open a the same times as WonderWorks, in early November.
Canyon Club Adventure, which begins inside WonderWorks, will have 35 suspended platforms.
It will also be tuned toward different skills of the adventurers who participate.
WonderWorks executives said Canyon Club Adventure will have 81 different elements. They include a vertical rope ladder, a two-line rope bridge, a tension traverse, a deep Burma bridge and more.
For each element, there will be different ropes configurations, WonderWorks executives said. Those configurations include tight ropes, bridges, balance beams and loops.
Participants wear a seat and chest harness, which is connected to a cable to help them stay on course.
Canyon Club Adventure, which will take 45-minutes and hour to traverse, begins inside WonderWorks. Those who pay the $14.99 fee for Canyon Climb Adventure then can walk out above the third-level bridge in front of Wonderworks, said Mark Strang of Destiny USA.
The more adventurous can also choose to wander out on the course as it soars suspended 70-feet above the middle of the Canyon floor.
"What Destiny is excited about is that from the first floor, the second floor and the third floor, you’ll be able to see people traversing the ropes course,” said Strang. “It’s going to become a spectator sport. We really think it will become an attraction where people come here just to watch.”
