On the BMX trail, fighting hunger, creating art

Yes, those were two Lower School brothers, above, headed off to compete for national titles at the USA BMX Gold Cup Final in Pennsylvania this weekend. The first grader is currently ranked the number one six-year-old novice BMX racer in the Northeast and the third grader is ranked fifth intermediate. They and their sponsor team, Island Insanity, are thrilled to be competing at the national level of this demanding, creative and exciting sport.

Yes, that was Admissions Associate Rodney López in the new How I Built This from the Glean Network. There, Rodney shares his personal story of his work at the intersection of spirituality and entrepreneurship.

 

Yes, that was Young Kindergarten aunt Elizabeth James-Perry featured on Greg Cook's blog, above, last week. James-Perry spoke to Cook about her recent collaboration with Boston's Museum of Fine Arts.

Yes, that was Head of School Noni Thomas López and Board Chair Amanda Riegel presenting at the Connecticut Association of Independent School's conference on governance. The two drew on their work together at Gordon for their talk, "Effectively Transitioning a New Head of School: It's Not a Blind Date!"

 

Yes, that was alumni parent Sheri Griffin interviewed at length for Vice.com's recent article on equity in the food system. Griffin is one of the executive directors at Farm Fresh Rhode Island, which was also the subject of a feature in the new Rhode Island Monthly.

Yes, that was Gianna Paratore '17, above, in that same issue of Rhode Island Monthly. She was highlighted as a distinguished Gordon graduate in the magazine's annual Head of the Class section.

Yes, that was sixth grade parent Alli-Michelle Conti on the list of contributors to that same Gordon-packed October Rhode Island Monthly. She covered the work of artist-activist AGONZA for the magazine.

 

Yes, that was a Gordon fifth grader and his mother, Dr. Alix Morse, above, speaking to WPRI's Alexandra Leslie about their family's decision to support the trial and advocate for the science behind vaccines. The segment aired on Wednesday.

Yes, that is Hope MacDonald '04 and Amy Page DiBlasio '02 among the designers invited to participate in StyleWeek's next event at the Capital Grille. Thanks to alumni parent Emily Anderson for the tip.
