Vigil-Annie Kindle Edition

3.8 out of 5 stars 83 ratings

From Bestselling Author Lia Fairchild

Annie Crawford was a kick-ass cop in the very precinct where her dad was killed in the line of duty.

She was building a life as a respected officer, cleaning up the streets...and falling in love with her partner. Until someone gunned him down and left her for dead.

A desperate Annie turns to a vigilante agency, stepping outside the law to seek vengeance.

The head of the agency appears to have his own agenda...his own secrets. But, Annie must work for them as they investigate the murder and help her find the answers she needs.

Working on the wrong side of the law, Annie's life has one purpose: justice. Justice for the man she loved and for the city she lives in. But as Annie's taste for the vigilante life grows, the agency struggles to control her, putting everyone involved at risk, including the two men who've grown to care about her. And the deeper she sinks into this new unsavory life, the more she fears she may never return.

Detroit, MI. Annie Crawford (Crawford Security, ex-DPD) had went to a bar asking for Frank Tappa.
She asked him a question & he took off running.
A few more confrontations & she had the cuffs on him.
Annie past continues to haunt her.
Detective Michael Mercer (Annie’s fiancé) was murdered last night.
Officer Annie Crawford was found badly beaten & lying next to him.
Annie (aka Grace) & Ted McKnight went to the Chateau Restaurant.
Charles Bushman (head, drug cartel) was there.

What bad news did Bianca give Annie about Henry Lockwood?
Charles & Manuel Gutierrez were both in custody.
Does Philip Gordon know something about Michael’s murder?

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written police mystery book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great police mystery movie, or better yet a mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

I ranked at 4 stars on this review with the caveat that I found numerous spelling errors in my copy that a spell-check program would not necessarily catch. I will provide what I found to the author for correction. It's likely the copy I read was an earlier version, so hopefully they're gone already. They were quite funny at times, and kind of ruined the somber mood at points. :D Still, I appreciate unintended comedy, so it wasn't too bad.

    But about that story...

I love me some violence, and female heroes kickin' ass and takin' names. Vigil Annie has enough to keep me happy. I felt kind of sorry for her, though, because at the end, I felt she started to define her self-worth based on her relationship to the men in her life. She really cared what they thought, way too much, even the dead guy. I wanted her to grow as a person and kick-ass-and-take-names for herself, on her own terms, for her own reasons. Still, the story evolved well, as did her character, and I enjoyed the author's clean and direct writing style.

Oh, and the ending was predictable, but not in a bad way. I actually hate endings that fall out of the sky or hinge on some irrelevant detail in chapter 3 that I overlooked because it was impossible to catch. Everything flowed together in a logical pattern toward the end.

    Overall, an enjoyable read.

I actually got this book on special for $0.99 and was I ever so glad. The plot took to long to develop. The author keep flashing back to tell the back story when she would have been better off writing it out entirely as a prologue and then fast forwarding it so many years.
The main character was so frustrating. She was too strong and willful for her own good, that it was stupid.
The love story was also laughable and yes predictable.
Now the ending left me like...."are you kidding me?". It was so predictable and anticlimactic.
If you need something to read while you are traveling on a plane or waiting I guess you can read this. This book is by no means a page turner or one to hold your interest. You will find yourself putting it down to do other things. It is not captivating at all.
It's an easy read if you are bored and have absolutely nothing else to keep you occupied.

I was really excited to read Vigil Annie because I enjoyed Finding Lucy so much, However I was really disapointed. The story line was interesting but it was very disjointed and seemed to jump around alot. The story just didn't flow and I found myself having to force myself to just finish it. The gramatical errors and editing was very poor, there were several words wrong and missing so that i found myself having to back up and reread to find out how it was suppose to have been writen. Overall this was not a book I can recommend to others because it took several days to force myself to get through it just to find out who done it.

I love the thriller genre, so when I purchased the e-book off Amazon, I had high expectations. I wasn't let down. Annie is a terrific heroine--tough, sexy, and human. She is an ex-cop who is running her own security agency by day while joining a secret agency and tracking down the city's worst criminals by night. The vigilante job is taken with the promise of help tracking down the murderer of the man she loved. There was some great action and some unexpected twists and turns along the way, but mostly there was a believable woman seeking justice while finding answers in her own personal life. I'd recommend the novel to anyone who likes to read suspense-filled, entertaining books.

I really enjoyed this book. Enough that I'm writing an Amazon review! Annie is a kick-butt character who has been through a lot and turned to being a vigilante to overcome and find some answers.

Annie was a cool character, and the book was populated with likable characters. And the story was entertaining and kept me wanting more.

I have 2 problems, though, that kept this from getting 5 stars. 1)There were some minor, though distracting editing issues. And 2) the whodunit was too obvious way too early. I like to be surprised by who the bad guy is...not led directly to the answer.

Still, the storyline was very entertaining, and I would recommend this to anyone who likes thrillers with a strong female heroine.

Lets wait and see. Will there be a future for Annie and her neighbour Joe ? . A very enjoyable read from a talented author.
