Recently I received a copy of 8 Simple Tools For Raising Great Kids. As most of you know I currently have a “tween” as she calls herself. She is just starting into the folded arms, eye rolls and back talking. It is driving me and her father insane. Sometimes it is easy to lose our temper. Especially with someone who is testing out her boundaries and just coming into her own as a pre-teen. Because of a few difficult things we have had going on with our daughter I knew that this book was for me. Honestly I did not even make it through the first chapter before I was crying. This book was filled with words that I needed to read and I honestly feel like it was written just for me.

Parenting is hard. We do our best but sometimes even that is not good enough. It is easy to get caught up in disciplining our children instead of seeing them for who they are and what they are trying to accomplish. Recently I read a quote on a facebook meme that said “When we only look at behavior, we stop seeing the child and only look with an intent to judge whether we need to reward or punish. When we look behind the behavior, we see that little struggling human, who needs our help with something.” – Rebecca Eanes

Thanks to 8 Simple Tools for Raising Great Kids by Dr. Rodd Cartmell I am now better able to look behind the behavior. I am able to pause and think before I react. I am so grateful to everything this book has taught me. I feel that my bond will only grow with my child now at this important time in her life. She is getting older now and I want her to always trust and believe in me. By using these great tools I can still discipline her when needed…but be better at doing so.

  1. I love this book too.It is helpful, thoughtfully composed book. I whole heartedly believe that all children are different, but this book is so well constructed, there really is something here to help everyone.

  2. This sounds like a good book to read. Even though I am on my fourth child I feel like I can earn a lot!

  3. For real! Parenting is the hardest thing you will ever do in your life. Ever. My daughter and I have a really strong relationship, but it took a lot of work and really making sure I taught her the right lessons.
