Name, Age: Brittany Hood, 27

Years bartending: 3 years

Bar location: Barefoot on the Beach Bar & Grill, 11073 Front Beach Road, Panama City Beach

Do you have another job or what was your last job? She currently also owns and runs The Corner Bar in Calhoun County just outside of Altha.

Favorite Drink to make: "A mojito. I love mojitos and I've been to a lot of places where they have not mastered them. What I do is add a little bit of Sierra Mist to the bottom of it so you have that sweetness and I'll muddle the lime and mint, add the rum and ice. A lot of times it's not sweet enough for a mojito, so if you add the Sierra Mist, it's perfect."

What’s the most sold drink in the bar? "Barefoot Punch."

When someone says “surprise me,” what’s your go-to drink? "Usually I'll ask them what type of liquor they normally drink or type of beer. If they like frozen drinks, I always try to recommend our Miami Vice. it's half Pina Colada, half strawberry daiquiri. So you get the best of both."

Have you created your own concoction? "Actually I have! It's called the Shark Attack. It is a shot that has rum, Blue Curacao, and a little bit of grenadine on top. When you float the grenadine on top it looks like a shark attack. I'll even add a little bit of banana liqueur to it."

Which cocktail do you dread making? "There really isn't anything I don't like to make, but if I had to make a choice...Mango Margaritas."

What is the strangest drink a customer has ever ordered? "Picklebacks — It's Jameson and pickle juice. I've never heard of the shot before and the pickle juice threw me off. A lot of people love it."

When do you know when a customer has had too much? "I always keep count of how many drinks I sell folks, but usually I notice the slurring of the speech and attitude changes."

What do you think makes this bar special? "I just love working for By The Sea Resorts. I worked at Barefoot Hide-a-way and we opened this place up Feb. 15. What I love about this place is that it is open and I love working outside. We have a pool now and a stage area where we host live bands. We can host parties and weddings. We don't shut down unless the weather gets really bad."

Are there any new products you are interested in working with or are currently working with? "Bicardi. We have our new Naked Turtle Rum and Captain Morgan and we carry 5 different Cruizan flavored rums. But we've had people request Bicardi so I've ordered it and it will be on the truck next week."

What activities do you enjoy outside the bar? "On my one day off a week, I'm usually doing inventory at my bar. I love walking my dog. I enjoy going to the beach and doing outside water sports."

What is your personal drink of choice? "Cabernet. I'm a wine drinker. And I like Malibu and water."

DRINK SPECIALS? "From 3-6 p.m. everyday, you can get $2 off domestic cans, imported cans, and draft beers. The only thing that isn't covered in that is the craft beers and our premiums (top shelf)."

  • ½ ounce Cruizan Mango Rum
  • ½ ounce Cruizan Vanilla Rum
  • ½ ounce Cruizan Pineapple Rum
  • ½ ounce Cruizan Banana Rum
  • ½ ounce Cruizan Coconut Rum
  • Top with mix of pineapple, orange, and cranberry juices.

HOW DOES IT TASTE? "It's a really sweet drink and you really cannot taste any harsh alcohol. You need to be careful because it can sneak up on you. And it comes in a really great cup for $12 that you can bring back for $7.75 refills. I'll be going back for a refill and the view!" — Kristy Lynne Smith
