PASCAGOULA, Mississippi -- Saturday is the last day for absentee voting at the Jackson County Courthouse, Circuit Clerk Joe Martin reminded residents Thursday.

"We have voted more than 3,000 absentee ballots, and it's picking up," Martin said about 3 p.m. Wednesday.

There are about 78,000 registered voters in Jackson County.

"We'll be here today until 5 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. for absentee voters," he said. "It's been brisk and busy. I believe we are going to have a big crowd, with lots of students and people who work out of town coming in to vote."

Registered voters should go to the first floor of the old county courthouse to vote for president, senator and representative, among others.

"We'll be here during the lunch hour, and we're here to help," Martin said."We want everyone to vote."

Martin said if a resident is in line to vote by noon on Saturday, he or she will be able to vote.

"We'll have a deputy here to cut off the line at 12 p.m., but we're going to get everyone in line voted," he said.
