SAN DIEGO – World War II veterans received a hero’s welcome as they returned to San Diego.

World War II veterans who made a trip through Honor Flight were welcomed back to San Diego by a large crowd at the airport.

Nearly a hundred World War II and Vietnam veterans returned to Lindbergh Field Sunday after visiting Washington D.C.

The group went for a semi-annual trip as part of the Tour of Honor Flight, a program offering veterans free four-day trips to D.C. They toured the National WWII Museum, as well as the Vietnam, Korea and Iwo Jima war memorials.

They spent Saturday visiting memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice.

Veterans were surprised by the warm welcome at the airport Sunday afternoon.

The trips usually take place in the spring and fall.
