Accessible Instructional Materials (AIM)
The National Center on Accessible Instructional Materials and PACER Center have recently released a new video 
designed to increase awareness of Accessible Instructional Materials (AIM). This fully-captioned video provides a straightforward, easy to understand, explanation of AIM for parents and educators.

Federal Grants Awarded to Support Extended Learning in High-Need Schools
On October 17, 2012, Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced that fourteen grant applications from municipalities throughout the state, totaling more than $2.5 million, have been approved as part of the United States Department of Education’s 21st Century Community Learning Center initiative.  This initiative supports programs that help children in high-need schools succeed academically by increasing access to extended learning opportunities.

The CT State Department of Education has developed new guidelines for managing life-threatening food allergies in CT schools. The guidelines also include information on managing glycogen storage disease.

Looking for activities to develop your young child's literacy skills?  The Center for Early Literacy Learning (CELL) has created several general practice guides for parents of infants, toddlers and preschoolers which include a variety of activities to develop listening, talking and early literacy skills.

Connect-Ability e-Learning
Connect-Ability, in partnership with the Bureau of Rehabilitation Services and the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, has created a series of free online e-Learning modules.   These modules provide training on a variety of topics including assistive technology, independent living skills, soft skills, the ADA, job retention and much more.

Communication Tips for Building Strong Partnerships
The PEAL Center of Pennsylvania has created a brochure to with tips to help families and schools build strong partnerships.  The brochure features a collection of effective communication strategies that can be used to encourage solution oriented conversation.   This is a great resource to check out before your next school meeting.

CPAC Lending Library
We've been busy updating our lending library and have recently purchased some new books for our collection.  We're especially excited to be expanding the number of books we have in Spanish.  Recent addition to our autism related books include, "El Manual del Autismo: Información Fácil de Asimilar, Visión, Perspectivas y Estudios de Casos de un Maestro de Educación Especial" (The Autism Handbook: Easy to Understand Information, Vision, Perspectives and Case Studies from a Special Education Teacher) and "Freaks, Geeks and Asperger Syndrome: A User Guide to Adolescence."  The full list of books in our Lending Library can be viewed online:
