Little Pim: Foreign Languages for Kids Review

The idea of teaching foreign languages to young children is a not a new concept, but Little Pim‘s award-winning foreign language series makes it both fun and possible for children to learn a new language!

Little Pim uses the The Entertainment Immersion Method®, which (as you might guess from its name) combines play and repetition to teach language. Little Pim, a cartoon panda bear, shares sixty words and common phrases in each themed DVD.

I had the opportunity to review one Little Pim DVD in the language of my choice (I chose Spanish). The DVD’s theme for Disc 1 is Eating and Drinking, so the boys and I watched video of lots of little boys and girls eating and drinking, requesting certain foods, and setting the table. The boys giggled at the silly things Little Pim does in between video segments and I modeled repeating words and phrases for them and soon they were parroting the sounds they heard.

Here are some of the features I love about the Little Pim series:

  • Parents can choose from a variety of formats:  traditional DVDs, digital downloads (for your computer or mobile device — see below), even apps for LeapPad!
  • There is an option to turn on English subtitles. In most cases, you’ll be able to figure it out easily, but if you’re unsure what words are being said, the subtitles help!
  • Printable guides for parents and even full scripts for each episode are available at LittlePim.com, which will help parents, teachers, or grandparents anticipate what’s coming and help your children stay engaged.
  • You can take a quiz on the website if you’re having trouble deciding which language to choose!
  • Free printable activities are available at LittlePim.com take your child’s learning even further!
  • Gift sets, CDs, plush Little Pims, backpacks, flash cards, and additional books can also be purchased! Whatever you desire to encourage learning a new language, Little Pim has it!

You can easily purchase Little Pim DVDs, digital downloads (see below), and other products at LittlePim.com. If you’d like to check it out first, you can sign up for a free trial! Once you’ve purchased and loved Little Pim, you can refer others and earn $20 for each referral you make!

My kids aren’t walking around speaking fluent Spanish yet, but they’re on their way to grasping basic words in the vocabulary. I can recommend Little Pim‘s educational products to anyone who is interested in teaching a new language to their child! Your kids will love the easy way they’ll learn through play and you’ll love knowing you’ve made an investment in their future.

  1. This looks like a great system for introducing kids to a new language. I would choose Spanish, too. I’ve never heard of Little Pim before. Thanks for the review!

  2. This looks like a great program! I have heard of Little Pim before, but wasn’t familiar with what it actually offered. I like that they have a variety of languages to choose from!

  3. Krista, I’m so glad you chose to review Little Pim! My son Matthieu (2 yrs.) and I watch the French program together and he loves it. My husband is from France so we try to speak French at home, and Little Pim is a great, fun way to reinforce the language.

  4. I have been looking for a product to introduce Spanish to my kids, this looks like a fun way to do it. Thanks for sharing.

  5. Ok, so I don’t have kids but if I did this would be great. I wish they offered ASL as a choice…Not sure how that would work since the Panda doesn’t have fingers but I think it would be great! Also I need to learn some basic Portuguese for an upcoming trip to Brazil. Since I learned Spanish by watching the cartoons on Univision (oh and a little in high school) and I can’t afford Rosetta Stone, I think the 40ish bucks for three episodes from Little Pim is a good start. I’ll let you know if it works on adults too!
