60% Of B.C Residents With Severe Cataracts Not Treated Quick Enough

The Globe And Mail recently reported that 60% of B.C. residents who have severe cataracts that prevent them from functioning without assistance, are not getting cataract surgery within the government’s benchmarked time frame.

This is a shocking statistic however, cataract surgery wait times have been growing in B.C. for quite some time. Unfortunately, the majority of people will experience cataracts at some point in their life. While cataract surgery is covered under the provincial health plan, the length of the wait list can deter many people from going this route. When cataracts become so advanced that they affect a person’s daily routine, it can really affect a person’s quality of life. It is for this reason that many chose to undergo private cataract surgery.

Did you know what it’s like to have cataracts?

Private Cataract Surgery

Choosing private surgery can cut wait times down from several months to less than a few weeks. For those with severe cataracts, getting their surgery as quick as possible is a top priority. Our private cataract surgery wait times are significantly shorter than if visiting a hospital. There are also premium implant options available privately that would not be possible if getting treated in hospital.

Our experienced team are available to answer any questions you may have over the phone, by email or during a free consultation with our eye surgeon, Dr. Boyd. You can also read more about cataracts and cataract surgery on our Resources page.
