Mecklenburg Co. Manager Presents 2017 Budget
CHARLOTTE, NC– The recommended fiscal year 2017 budget would mean no tax rate increase for the fourth year in a row.
The Mecklenburg County Manager presented the $1.6 billion budget to County Commissioners today.
It gives Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools an 11.3 million increase over this year.
That’s about half of what CMS asked for, bringing the district’s total to nearly $30 million.
“52% of the county budget is devoted to education. I think that’s a pretty good statement on how important education is here in Mecklenburg County.” said Democratic County Commissioner Trevor Fuller.
The budget recommendation includes a nearly 3% raise for county employees.
