South Florida law firm The Markarian Group recently named local education and civic leader Alexandria Ayala as its director of communications and community engagement, continuing the practice’s longstanding commitment to improving the quality of life for area residents. Ayala, the first Hispanic woman to serve on the Palm Beach County School Board, brings a decade of experience in community advocacy, government and legislative affairs. “Alexandria’s Palm Beach County involvement and governmental knowledge made her the perfect person to lead our community engagement efforts,” said Dave Markarian, managing partner of The Markarian Group. Raised in Palm Springs, Ayala graduated from the University of Central Florida with a bachelor’s degree in political science and a minor in journalism studies. The Markarian Group serves the legal needs of businesses and individuals from the Treasure Coast to the Florida Keys.

The National Court Reporters Association (NCRA), the country’s leading organization representing stenographic court reporters, captioners, and legal videographers, has announced that Jill Felicetti has earned the nationally recognized Registered Merit Reporter (RMR) certification, having demonstrated her ability to produce a high-quality verbatim record. RMR credentials distinguish stenographic court reporters and captioners as being among the top contributors to the profession in terms of reporting skills, transcript production, operating practices, and professionalism. Felicetti, from Wellington, is a member of NCRA and has worked as a court reporter for 33 years.

The Palm Beach County Commission has appointed Commissioner Maria G. Marino to serve as its representative on the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority Governing Board. Marino previously served on the Palm Beach Gardens City Council, serving as the city’s mayor in 2017-18. In addition to her SFRTA work, she serves on the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council, Loxahatchee River Coordinating Council, North County Intergovernmental Committee, and is the immediate past chair and current member of the Palm Beach County Transportation Planning Agency.

The Pap Corps’ board of directors recently announced that Sally Berenzweig has been appointed CEO of the 68-year old South Florida nonprofit, which raises funds for cancer research at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami. Berenzweig, the co-founder and former CEO of KidSafe Foundation, will draw on 14 years of nonprofit expertise to expand The Pap Corps’ fundraising base, develop new partnerships, increase membership, raise awareness through social media campaigns and explore grant opportunities. With nearly 22,000 members in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties, The Pap Corps has donated more than $110 million to Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Palm Beach resident Riccardo Boehm has been awarded the Citation for Meritorious Service in recognition of outstanding service to the Rotary Foundation for his support of life-changing, sustainable projects in both the Dominican Republic and Guatemala. Boehm, who also works with children as a guardian ad litem volunteer closer to home in Palm Beach County, was surprised to receive this recognition. “I only hope that my association with Rotary will help to raise awareness of the enormously important work the Foundation is doing and funding,” he said.
