Raekwon Davis punches in Missouri game could lead to missed playing time

Alabama coach Nick Saban yells to defensive lineman Raekwon Davis (99) after a penalty in the Missouri game.

Things got physical during and after the whistle Saturday in Alabama's game with Missouri.

Crimson Tide defensive lineman Raekwon Davis was whistled for punching Missouri offensive lineman Kevin Pendleton and that won't be the end of the repercussions.

Nick Saban on Monday said he spoke directly with SEC commissioner Greg Sankey about the topic and it will be handled internally.

"We will have him do some things and I think it should affect his playing time in the future," Saban said.

Davis apologized to Pendleton on Twitter late Saturday night after ESPN cameras captured him delivering three punches to his body while they were down on the ground.

"I would like to apologize to Kevin Pendleton, the Missouri Tigers, their fans, Alabama Fans, and my teammates and coaches for my actions during tonight's game," Davis said. "I allowed my emotions to get the best of me and that's unacceptable. Again I'm sorry and it will never happen again."

Davis is Alabama's sixth leading tackler with 27 stops including 3.0 for loss.

Alabama plays Tennessee at 2:30 p.m. CT Saturday in Knoxville.
