Kim Kardashian ‘surprised’ her friends with a trip to a private island for her b-day

kimbday2

Kim Kardashian’s 40th birthday was a week ago, October 21, which falls on the last day of the Libra sign (I thought she was a Scorpio, so what do I know). Kim said words before her birthday about how she was probably going to keep it lowkey this year because of the pandemic, but the original plan was to do a huge blowout party, probably in LA, with full costumes and everything. Instead of doing an LA blowout or keeping it quiet, Kim decided to… make all of her friends and family quarantine for two weeks, just so they could celebrate her birthday on a private island. Kim posted this on her social media, with lots of photos:

40 and feeling so humbled and blessed. There is not a single day that I take for granted, especially during these times when we are all reminded of the things that truly matter.

For my birthday this year, I couldn’t think of a better way to spend it than with some of the people who have helped shaped me into the woman I am today.

Before COVID, I don’t think any of us truly appreciated what a simple luxury it was to be able to travel and be together with family and friends in a safe environment.

After 2 weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time.

We danced, rode bikes, swam near whales, kayaked, watched a movie on the beach and so much more. I realize that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is. #thisis40

[From Kim’s Twitter]

Everyone was dunking on Kim for being grossly out-of-touch, even if she’s “humbly” acknowledging her massive privilege. What struck me was the weird logistics of it. I get that Kim’s a planner and I’m sure her sisters and her mom were happy enough to quarantine for the trip. But Kim also invited Corey Gamble, Tristan Thompson (for Khloe), NBA player Devin Booker (for Kendall??), La La Anthony and Scott Disick, among others. You’re telling me that ALL of them quarantined for two weeks, all for a “surprise” island getaway? Nah, I don’t believe it. Apparently, after everyone quarantined (or whatever!) for two weeks and got multiple tests, everybody boarded a private 777 and went to a tropical island which has no recorded covid cases. Kim paid for everything, including the villas. She also hooked up her guests with “Skims pajamas, KKW Beauty products, GoPro’s, waterproof disposable cameras and lots of other island essentials.” So… like, did people have time to pack? Did they know they were going to an island??

Also: Kanye wasn’t there for the entire trip but he allegedly popped by for a few days. Maybe that was his birthday present to Kim: she didn’t have to be his caretaker for a few days.

But yeah. All of this is incredibly out of touch. Eat the rich!

Where are her children? The pictures showed Kourtney’s kids but none of hers.

The Twitter response to this was wonderful.

    • Tris says:

I wondered what Ronan Farrow was on about — he’s been posting insane paintings of groups and saying that he made everyone he knew go to an island to party. Now I get it, he’s dragging K

    • Who ARE These People? says:

Was her husband there? Was she too busying partying to help him run for president?

    • Alisha says:

Well Khloe now is positive for Covid, so…

      • ME says:

She tested positive months ago. I’m guessing she got it when she went on that reckless “babymoon” with Malika and some friends. Khloe has kept on lecturing others to stay home and stay safe. This family likes to preach but doesn’t practice it themselves. Remember after Kim’s robbery she said she was going to live a more simple and private life…lol…

      • Alisha says:

@ME well I’m glad it was before this party at least. This was so irresponsible.

  2. farah says:

This post radicalized me. Eat the rich. Tax the rich. This so gross. I don’t understand the thought process behind sharing this with people dying, unable to get tests and losing their jobs but Kim couldn’t deal with not being able to travel, so she had a “normal” get away to a privat island

    • Holly says:

      Amen, sister

      • Winterforever says:

I was radicalized before, but I am now guillotine ready. We need to tax the hell out of these people. No one should have this kind of ridiculous wealth and not pay taxes the same as everyone else, because we know they don’t, ie Donald Trump’s $780. This country is a trash fire, people are dying and this kind of display of wealth and humble-bragging is considered acceptable to these people. This is a “Let them eat cake” moment if I’ve ever seen one. She could’ve used even a small portion of her 1 million dollar birthday to help families suffering through the pandemic and ression. It would’ve been a better birthday gift for her soul. I am tired of both Kardashian-West’s birthday party clown cars. Frankly, I am tired of rich people’s gross display of wealth in general. Both she and Kanye deserve irrelevance and a giant tax bill. Viva la revolución!

    • Sa says:

Seriously, these tweets may be the best advertisement I’ve seen for a wealth tax.

    • manda says:

What blows my mind is how many people that don’t make that much, but they’re republican, are upset about Biden trying to tax people that make more than $400K. It’s shocking and unbelievable how that party has manipulated its base into fighting for what is not good for them

      • jenellesTiktok says:

“Socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat, but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires.” So many think their 30k a year job is going to translate into wealth later in life through some incredible stockpicking or buying a lottery ticket.

    • Meg says:

They share vacation porn because they want to seem superior and to get people jealous & wanting to be like them. Thats their whole existence

    • Jodi says:

honestly, i’ve been a Kardashian apologist over the years because it’s my guilty pleasure watch but truly, i cannot get over the tone deafness and privilege of this trip. between this and Kanye…i’m over it all.

    • laura-j says:

I don’t begrudge her for doing what she wants with her money, BUT… incredibly tone deaf and cringey… maybe do this and um you know don’t post pictures? And talk about how lucky and privledged you are… I mean… seriously? I feel bad for being able to pay for a car loan and vet bills this year and having a yard, a small yard… I didn’t even post about renting a small house for my 50th, because it felt too braggy, and I got like 100 followers.

And yes, tax the hell out of them.

      • Size Does Matter says:

Yes exactly. Do it privately if you must but don’t rub our noses in it. It’s one thing to see and maybe envy this type of lifestyle when the world hasn’t gone to shit but it’s different now.

      • Who is Justice Beaver? says:

Yes Laura J! My thoughts 1000%!!

When I first saw this mess of an advertisement to Eat The Rich, I thought…this is a joke, it has to be a joke, right? Even these messes would be discrete about this sh!t right? With the second wave truly taking hold and so many are suffering? I’m embarrassed and humble that I can afford my massage therapy and new eyeglass frames. I secretly donate to the local food bank and GoFundMe’s, and cannot fathom human beings carrying on as these people do.

    • Jules says:

If it’s any consolation, their lives (and their brains) are so empty and devoid of any normal human emotions, they feel compelled to do crap like this for attention. The more celebs show us who they are, the less relevant they become.

  3. Arpeggi says:

We know they didn’t all quarantined, we know tests are a diagnosis; they tell you that on the day of the test, you didn’t have a detectable viral load not that you didn’t catch it since testing, they’re endangering the staff and those living on the island to do sponsored pictures and show their grift. It’s beyond gross and tone-deaf.

Also, with all their money, this is the cake she got?! Heck, I spent my bday alone, it sucked big times (and it’s in late April and it snowed just to make it worst) but at least, the carrot cake I baked for myself was way better looking than that cake

    • Lightpurple says:

I laughed at the cake too. My birthday was in May when my state was losing several hundred a day to the pandemic and everything was shut down. My boarder had decided to use the lockdown to teach herself to bake and wanted to bake me a chocolate birthday cake. From the looks of the practice cakes I kept finding, it wasn’t going well. On my birthday, she, her boyfriend, and my great aunt surprised me with a mini party with flowers, balloons, and a chocolate cake, layers with raspberry chocolate mousse and topped with ganache that my great aunt had my Cousin’s daughter-in-law, a pastry chef, make and deliver to them.

      • Arpeggi says:

Oooh! That sounds like a lovely quarantine bday! And a delicious cake!

I’ve baked a lot of bday cakes in the spring and summer for friends, that was the only fun thing I could do to keep me sane during the stricter lockdown months (well, that and gardening). I made spring-themed sugar cookies for my best friend, a pinata ombre cake for another, I made some mean lava cakes for myself and some iles flottantes (poached meringue floating in custard covered in caramel)… Needless to day, I gained 20lbs :S

      • LadyMTL says:

My b-day was early this month and I had one friend over; we ordered pizza and burgers and had a lovely catch-up session. My mom had planned a b-day dinner for a few days later but it was cancelled (here in Quebec our Covid cases have gone way up so any gatherings are banned…the only exception is if you live alone you can have one person over.)
My cake was a tiny one that I got from the grocery store, it was chocolate / raspberry and it was delicious! I’m sure the whole $9 I spent was way more worth it than whatever KK’s must have cost, lol.

      • Arpeggi says:

Happy belated birthday fellow Montrealer! Yeah, an October covid bday could be difficult too with the restrictions coming back (at least we can invite one person!). And I’m sure your cake was way better; hers looks like a grocery cake too, but you know it probably cost half our rent!

      • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

My birthday is this Friday. It’ll just be me and my dad, as my sister thought a Pandemic was a good time for a road trip and won’t be home till the weekend (so it’ll be at least a week to 10 days before I’ll let her come over near my dad.
No cake, nothing special… just another quiet night, like all others. Still… we’re all alive and healthy (that I know as of now!) so I’m grateful for that.

My birthday WISH, and ALL I want for my birthday, is a Biden/Harris LANDSLIDE! THEN I WILL CELEBRATE!!! 🎉🍷🎈

      • Lovely Rita says:

My bday is 11/3. My husband asked what I wanted. My answer is a Biden/Harris landslide. I’m doing virtual phone banking in Florida. It’s tough here even in very blue Broward. People, particularly humans of color, don’t think anything will change for them. I feel ashamed and sincerely hope they are wrong.

      • The Recluse says:

My Mom’s birthday was in March, mine in May, we did nothing. We couldn’t even go to the movies because of COVID-19. I say, bring back the Eisenhower level of taxation for these fools.

    • Anna says:

@Arpeggi That was my thought, too: what about the people who had to work taking care of her “humble” party. So disgusting to put so many people’s lives at risk.

  4. OriginalLala says:

Read the f*cking room Kim, this is the wrong time to be flaunting your excessive, tacky lifestyle – when’s the revolution?? I’m so fed up with the rich

  5. Darla says:

TAX THE RICH TILL THEY SQUEAK – THEN TAX THEM SOME MORE!

  6. NicDix says:

Eh…if I could afford it, I would do the same. With daily rapid tests, of course.

    • Astrid says:

but would you post it on social media?

      • NicDix says:

No but only because I am not on social media. I have a lot of friends and family who would so it would be found eventually.

      • ItReallyIsYouNotMe says:

I suspect they posted it on social media because they knew it was going to be leaked and wanted to get ahead of the story.

    • Darla says:

      I wouldn’t.

    • Arpeggi says:

Daily rapid tests aren’t useful to prevent outbreaks, ask those who attended the Rose Garden ACB nomination. They’re a snapshot in time and doesn’t mean your status hasn’t changed and it’ll take 2-5 days of tests to detect the viral load.

When public health tells you to stay at home and not risk contaminating people living on a freackin’ island, you do it, no matter how much money you have

    • Lyli says:

I think we all would. But it doesn’t mean it’s right, and that’s why governments and policies exist. Not one individual should have that much money and power.

  7. souperkay says:

the copypasta memes on twitter are delicious, island of dr moreau, the lighthouse, jurassic park worth a look

  8. lola says:

Can’t wait how they try to turn this once the first party guest tests positive for Covid.

  9. Lenn says:

Would you though? I for sure wouldn’t.

    • josephine says:

I would not either. It’s one birthday, and she’s an adult. It’s embarassing that she’s so flipping needy that she has to have a production for a birthday in the middle of a pandemic.

But if anyone thought these people were intelligent or thoughtful or worried about others or interested in being good citizens, then they deserve to be fooled. There’s just nothing redeeming or worthwhile about any of them. They contribute nothing to society, and people just continue to through their money at their grifting schemes.

    • lucy2 says:

I wouldn’t either. I’m an adult and don’t need a huge attention grabbing party for my birthday, and would never, NEVER do this during a pandemic, when people are dying and struggling, and doing something like this puts all the ones I care about at risk.
You know not everyone quarantined, they were barely doing it before. I just hope if someone there had it, it doesn’t spread to any of the workers .

This is so incredibly selfish and tone deaf, and blasting it on social media is flat out disgusting. I’m glad she’s getting slammed for it. It’d be nice if this was the beginning of the end for these vapid, selfish people.

      • Anne Call says:

The worshipping and interest in these vapid immoral grotesque people (real housewives I include in this) gave us our reality tv show president. A nation thinks these people are interesting, entertaining and in the case of trump, a great “businessman”. Ugh to them all.

  10. Ainsley7 says:

Were her friends also surprised that their surprise vacation would be used to promote Kim’s brands and other brands that were clearly sponsoring it. Or do they know her too well for that? Like, I’m sure there were plenty of perks to being a part of this advertisement, but wouldn’t it have been nicer (and honestly more humble) if Kim just did something without trying to profit off of it in some way.

    • JT says:

This is why I question the Kardashian’s wealth. The fact that they are always doing sponsored posts like instagram influencers says to me that they really need the money. Kylie is allegedly a billionaire but she’s doing fit tea posts like any run of the mill instamodel who has 60 thousand followers. I mean, we never see Beyoncé do sponsored posts. The fact that Kim needed all of these sponsors to essentially pay for her birthday is not only tacky but it looks like she’s hard up for cash.

      • yo-yo says:

Kim (the Kardashians) and Beyonce are 2 completely different types of celebrity. One has discernible talent so of course Kim/insta models need the sponsors to stay afloat.

      • jenellesTiktok says:

She’d probably even be doing sponsored posts if God forbid Kanye’s bid for White House succeeded and they starting doing all kinds of emolument violations and grifting like Trump has. Make all foreign leaders and lobbyists stay in the new Yeezybreezynights hotel chain and wear Yeezys if they want to talk to the prez.

  11. Becks1 says:

This is so grossly out-of-touch. If you can afford something like this and can pull it off in Covid times, then just don’t post about it on social media. But I guess for KK, there would be no point if she couldn’t post about it.

  12. Bibi says:

I don’t mind kim or anybody who have the means to do this, but my god – these people can’t read the room. She could’ve done this without buzzing this over social media, it’s not like she needs the advertisement during this time. I call this a lack of sensitivity, probably also a little dumb and for sure narcissistic.

    • Savu says:

We’re *hoping* we can keep our wedding plans and get married in Mexico in February. If it was tomorrow, we wouldn’t do it. We have plans in place for everyone to be tested twice in the week before we leave. Everyone in our group of 20 is taking this super seriously – the wedding would be their one reprieve. In fact, cases are way lower in that area of Mexico than here at home in Wisconsin. After recent studies have shown crazy low rates of transmission on planes when everyone is masked, we were encouraged. We have shields for all of our guests to wear over their masks on the plane. Once we’re there, it’s masks indoors, and masks outdoors if we’re too close to others. My parents even booked the whole row of seats on the plane to ensure they don’t have anyone right next to them.

That being said, we are in no way doing the “well we’re doing this trip no matter what!” kind of thing. We spent months going back and forth with the resort to ensure our guests could get their money back if they cancel up to two days before the wedding. And whatever we’ve paid for the wedding will basically be a travel voucher at our resort if we have to cancel. Canceling is very much on the table.

I’ve always been worried we would look insensitive or careless. I know we’re not, but a stranger wouldn’t know that. I’m scared we’ll get backlash for traveling at all. When the only reason I’d even consider it is because we and everybody invited are barely leaving the house. My parents are both in corporate insurance, and their big thing is risk mitigation. This would be our highest-risk covid activity, but we’d still be super careful. Now I’m just worried it won’t even matter that we’ve done EVERYTHING else “correctly”.

I just want President Biden to get us way more rapid result tests, where you need a negative result to step on a plane. People would feel way more comfortable flying, and it would effectively halt an infected person from traveling. (nothing is perfect, of course)

      • Emma says:

People are going to judge this ~ as an economist, you cannot risk mitigate your way out of the fact that what you are doing for the wedding is still incredibly dangerous.

I get that you want to celebrate your wedding and I am so very sorry about what Covid has done to everyone’s lives and special events. But, I live in Maine and I saw how one wedding ripped through our communities and state.

For me, and this is just me personally, I could never live with the guilt if my actions triggered an avalanche of problems.

      • Hotsauceinmybag says:

@ Savu, I have a friend who is an American resident of Mexico for more than 20 years. She’s a journalist and part of her beat is covering COVID. She tells me that the reason cases are so low in MX is because testing is not widely available so most cases that test positive come from hospitals. And those that are going to hospitals are very very ill and must wait until they get ill to seek treatment. So… I’d rethink your wedding plans to Mexico — of course you’ll know closer to the date but just because you are being very responsible does not mean this is a responsible thing to do.

  13. TIFFANY says:

She got the birthday cake she deserved and I will leave it at that.

  14. CV says:

I will pull up a seat and pop some corn to watch them get what they deserve for this tacky, crass, privileged display. IMO they’ve always been a stain on our collective culture, maybe this will break the fever for millions of other people too.

  15. Angel says:

This is the exact type of energy that got her robbed in the first place. Go on vacation but why post the pics ? She is so desperate for publicity that she is fine with trending for the wrong reasons it’s so sad.

  16. Erina says:

    They are grotesque.

  17. Valiantly Varnished says:

This $hit pissed me OFF. Talk about some tone deaf privileged BS. I spent MY 40th birthday in June quarantined in my apartment. Restaurants had reopened here but I didn’t feel comfortable going out or asking anyone else to do so either just for my birthday. I don’t believe for a second that any of them quarantined either.

    • curachel20 says:

I turned 40 back in March, literally a week after lockdown started. I had a cake with my husband and toddlers, and ate takeout sushi 😂🤷🏻‍♀️ Pandemic birthdays aren’t fun, but I’m sn adult, so we managed 😂

      • paranormalgirl says:

Yup. I had a pandemic birthday party, too. A cake my girlspawn made, lasagna my boyspawn and his girlfriend (who quarantined with us) made, and a movie on the big screen. Actually, it was like every other birthday, for me. I’m not into big parties.

    • ChillyWilly says:

It pisses me off too. So many people are suffering right now and Kim has so much. Why not spend your birthday helping others instead of spreading Covid and buying up a zillion tests while many Americans are waiting in long lines to get one? It’s shitty.

      • Anna says:

Yes, and she is adding to the suffering for those workers who had to take care of her and that klan. It’s sickening. Everything worried about her and her family/friends testing but what about all of the staff/employees and others tasked with serving this group?

  18. Ruth Ann says:

So nice to know that “humble” and “privilege” can be in the same sentence 🙄

  19. BB8 Squirrel says:

I can’t with Kim anymore and it’s not because of this disgusting display of wealth but because she doesn’t publicly denounce her husband running for president. I know she’s not her husbands keeper and she’s not responsible for him blah blah blah…. but her husband is literally going to take thousands of votes away (just like others did in 2016) and it could be the difference between trump winning and Biden losing. It’s not okay and this vacuous, vapid idiot who has more money than we will ever fathom doesn’t even give a sh*t… in fact I’m sure she supports it because she benefits from Trumps tax cuts. Hate her and her whole family.

  20. Bobbie says:

Does she have friends? You never see her with anyone besides her family. They seem pretty clannish and have little interest in anyone else.

    • CuriousCole says:

This is the one time it’s good she doesn’t have many/didn’t invite many. The fewer people roped into this potential petri dish of a vacation, the better.

      • Bobbie says:

I have a different opinion. I say, “Go for it.” If someone wants to go out and socialize, I get it. I live by myself and work from home. I can go days without talking to anyone but the grocery clerk. It’s horrible. So if people want to get out, they should.

      • H says:

@Bobbie, so it’s okay for her little group to potentially bring COVID to an island without it? F that noise. Kim is vacuous, useless and completely tone deaf. May she fall off a cliff while taking a video of it.

      • Bobbie says:

We live in a global society. There is no place without covid. And I don’t live my life in fear.

      • Who ARE These People? says:

It’s not about fear/not fear. It’s about unknowingly being a link in a chain of transmission that could kill someone along the way.

So tired of people viewing this pandemic as a chance to announce their bravado.

It’s rational and smart to be afraid of a) getting sick, b) potentially dying (relative to risk factors, but there are outliers among “otherwise healthy, young people”), c) making someone you know sick, potentially fatally so, or leaving them with permanent organ damage, d) making someone you don’t know — the same.

It’s called responsibility to one’s fellow people. And while the virus is an invisible threat, it is a KNOWN threat. Fear is not the same as panic.

Keep your distance, wear a mask when too close or inside at any distance, get on with your lives as best and as responsibly as you can. Remember in the US that your current government has chosen to abandon you.

      • lucy2 says:

The “do what you want” and “I’m not afraid” attitudes are precisely why we are seeing resurgences of the virus around the world, and why the US in particular is failing so miserably.

      • ME says:

        @ lucy2

I 100% agree. The reason this pandemic is not over is because of PEOPLE not willing to follow Covid precautions. Selfish f*cking a$$holes who just don’t want to be inconvenienced. Thanks jerks, you’re the reason the rest of us are still locked up in our houses.

      • paranormalgirl says:

I don’t live my life in fear, either, Bobbie. But I am a caring, responsible, fully functioning adult. And I am a medical professional. I have seen firsthand what this virus can do. And we don’t even know what it looks like on the other side, yet. I choose to err on the side of caution. You want to go out and risk infecting yourself and others, that doesn’t make you anything more than a selfish person. Don’t kid yourself that it’s anything other than that.

      • ChillyWilly says:

@Who ARE These People? (I love that user name, btw!)
        Amen to everything you said!
@ Bobbie You are a selfish ahole and part of the reason our country is in this mess. Live with that.

      • Elizabeth says:

Bobbie, INcorrect! Look at New Zealand or Japan. They are taking simple precautions like wearing goddamned masks and they are controlling the spread. It is only because of selfish/ignorant people in our country, starting with our fake, grotesque “President,” that we are seeing cases (and DEATHS) skyrocket.

This is not “living in fear“. It is acknowledging basic REALITY and basic science.

      • Jules says:

And we have a Darwin Awards winner.

    • Merricat says:

The ignorance of “I don’t live my life in fear” is literally breath-taking.

      • Nic919 says:

I could care less if those people get the virus, but it’s that they most certainly pass it in to others with their idiotic bravery. Just like anti maskers if they are so brave then go visit an ICU and get back to me about fear.

  21. Eliza says:

Did the pilot quarantine too? So glad she and her group could potentially bring covid to an island with staff and facilities that couldn’t support them if they got a serious case.

    • paranormalgirl says:

I was thinking the same thing. I have a place in the Bahamas, on a private cay (it’s owned by a bunch of friends and family and it’s kind of like an eco-friendly cooperative) and we have a strict COVID-19 policy there. You come in, you have to quarantine for 14 days and get tests at the beginning and end of the quarantine before you can hang out with anyone else. And even then, you don’t go to any other island for another week, following a final test, to further reduce the risk to others. Needless to say, no one is jetting there for a quick vacation. That would be unbelievably irresponsible. When I head back there, I will have to quarantine as well, so we’re not going there until we know we are planning on being there for quite some time.

      • ChillyWilly says:

So proud that you are doing the right thing, Paranormal Girl. You’re a good egg.

      • paranormalgirl says:

Thanks. Most of us are just trying to do what’s right.

      • Grey says:

What a cool place to be able to go! I would bet it is so good for the soul when you are able to be there. I love that you are taking Covid so seriously. I am considered to be an essential worker in my province and so I see people during the work day but haven’t seen friends and family in months as I don’t want to pass things on by accident, so knowing that other people out there take it seriously means a lot.

  22. megs283 says:

I mean… would she have followers if she weren’t over-the-top? This isn’t the first or last decision by the Kardashians that I disagree with. Kim K is gonna be Kim K.

    • ChillyWilly says:

Yeah, but this is different. Lives are at stake.

ChillyWilly, after reading more and thinking about it more, I agree with you. I have been very lucky – no family members or friends touched by COVID, and we have kept our jobs. This time has not been easy, but it hasn’t been a struggle thus far in the same way it has for others. To those people, Kim’s tweet is a complete slap in the face.

  23. Audrey says:

Like everyone else said, completely tone-deaf. I really hope there’s a major backlash against the Kardashians for this type of behavior. Too many people are suffering.

  24. Amelie says:

The memes yesterday on Twitter of that picture were brutal and amazing. It took me a few minutes to understand why people kept posting about private islands and birthdays haha. My favorite had to be the MOMA twitter account post of the meme.

Tbh, if I were as rich as Kim and approaching a milestone birthday, I would probably do the same but I would only take my direct family and that’s it. That’s 3 people, not how ever many people Kim brought. And I definitely would never post about it to social media because people would only react badly.

And Kim might be good at business, but she’s not street smart and doesn’t know how to read the room. Nobody wants to know about some fun luxury birthday she threw for herself on an island with all these people. Nobody is interested in her self-promotion at the moment. People have lost friends and relatives, have gotten sick, have been isolated for months. And all she cares about is sharing about her over the top 40th birthday getaway. Seriously so happy her stupid show is ending.

Also that’s one ugly cake. This family has no taste.

  25. AK says:

What would have been lovely is if she had stayed at home and donated the amount she had set aside for the celebration, to charities related to covid…

She could still have posted about it social media and created a buzz.

    • Anne Call says:

Exactly. Spending this kind of money while people have lost jobs and can’t pay mortgages or rents and medical bills is just so grotesque. I don’t know who she appeals to. I guess trump supporters?

  26. Case says:

It truly stuns me how people are losing their minds over not being able to go on vacation for a year. Not just celebrities, but normal folks who are putting their lives at risk to fly somewhere because they “deserve it”? I can’t understand it. As soon as I heard “pandemic,” that translated to no vacation for me until we have a vaccine. It probably won’t even be that long of a wait. The fact that people are unwilling to sacrifice anything for the greater good is why we’re in this position eight months out.

    • paranormalgirl says:

Agreed wholeheartedly. We ALL deserve a vacation, time off, time away, and “normalization.” And we can wait until COVID-19 is handled ( the numbers go down, and there is a vaccine,) like the grown ups we’re supposed to be. The literal and figurative stomping of feet over not being able to do things is beyond irritating.

    • Arpeggi says:

I mean, there’s a difference between not going away on vacations and not having time off. One is easy, but not being able to log off from work is harder.

I haven’t had time off since the last xmas break; I lost 3 weeks of paid vacations during the last work calendar, I was expecting to see most of my 5 weeks this year also be wasted because the thought of staying home alone without the possibility of hanging out with friends is just too depressing and is too close to what I already experience so I’d rather work. But I’m worn out: I have email fatigue, WFH means I can never be totally off from work even on the days I don’t have to go to the lab, I’ve seen my colleague in person 30min since March because we work alternate days, I have difficulties to focus for more than 15min and my mind is constantly going 30 different ways (in part due to being inundated by emails), I lost a chunk of hair last week… I clearly need a vacation. I get why people want to get away for a few days at some point.

Fortunately, I just bought a condo. So I’ll use some of my weeks of vacations doing some renovations and dealing with moving without having to also juggle with work stuff. It’ll definitely not going to be relaxing, but it’ll be different and I think we all need to live something that’s a bit different than our daily grind these days.

      • Case says:

What I’m talking about is traveling for leisure during a pandemic and putting your health (and others) at risk. I ABSOLUTELY think it’s important to take time off from work this year, even if you’re not doing anything exciting, for mental health purposes. I would definitely encourage you to do so if you’re feeling burnt out. I also live alone and work from home. I’ve taken long weekends here and there to do some home organizing, catch up on shows, and just take a mental health day, and I think it has been really beneficial for me. No one should be working themselves to death during such a hard year if they have PTO to spare!

        Congrats on your condo!

      • Nic919 says:

Please take care of yourself regarding the stress. Maybe take a Friday off or a Monday off just for the mental break. It will help so much knowing you don’t have to think about work that day. I found that it has helped me by making a long weekend an extra day longer so while it’s not a full on holiday, it is still a mental break from work.

      • CJ says:

I would wholeheartedly recommend taking time off even if it is just to stay at home. We have vacation days not just to get away, but to decompress from the stress of work. A few years ago I deliberately minimised my days off over most of a year, thinking I didnt want to ‘waste’ them just hanging out in the city I lived in at the time – long story short, I ended up leaving my job and spending 4 months at my Dad’s recovering from burnout.

I know it sucks this year not being able to go on “a proper holiday” (as we call it in my friendship group) but during the pandemic I’ve had a couple of staycations and absolutely wouldn’t have mentally survived the workload without those days just sitting with my kindle and letting my brain relax.

Congrats on the condo and please do get away for a break – there’s so much pressure in modern life to always be ‘making the most’ of everything, but especially this year we all need some downtime and to embrace sometimes doing nothing.

    • lucy2 says:

I know! I can’t believe how many people are still trying to travel for fun.
I love to travel, and usually go on one big trip and one small one every year. I’m lucky I can do that, and have a little side business I do basically to pay for it. I’m missing traveling, for sure, but there’s no way I’d get on a plane right now for fun.
Work has been crazy, so I have taken a mental health day here and there and have gone on some little day trips, but only outside stuff and away from other people.

    • Renee says:

@ Case…all of this! You said it all! I agree completely.

    • Swack says:

I don’t either. I take my grandchildren when they are 8 to Disney World. Moved my plans from this past Sept to this coming Feb. Then cancelled it all completely and will hopefully get to go next Sept. Will see.

    • Jodi says:

i cancelled my trip vacation immediately and took two staycations. this was a privilege to be able to do so and NOT a sacrifice. it’s just being smart and caring about others more than your planned trip!

      • paranormalgirl says:

We camped on our property. Far enough away from the house and in a wooded area so it actually felt like we were camping.

    • Darla says:

Yep. I’d be in the Caribbean this Christmas away from my MAGA family. I just say to myself, next year will be better and I’ll go then. Big deal. My God. You know, children are starving. Maybe make larger donations to child hunger groups this year in lieu of a vacation. You’ll survive. I have zero patience for this trick, and while I can’t afford her kind of vacations, I CAN afford a normal Island vacation, and no I’m not jealous. I’m disgusted.

    • The Recluse says:

I was hoping to scrape together the funds to go to Italy to see the big 500 year anniversary exhibition of Raphael (his death) in Rome. It would have been nice, but I do not want to risk my Mom’s life or mine. I ordered the exhibition catalog online and consoled myself with that.

  27. Sarah says:

This even made it into the top 10 most read stories on BBC news today with the word ‘humble’ in the headline.

Wow this is a bad look. Not that they care as I doubt it will hit their bottom line. We can only hope.

  28. nicegirl says:

I’m always ticked when I think of the real philanthropic efforts and effects one with this kind of wealth could bring forth.

  29. Maple 🍁 says:

If I had her wealth and means I would 💯 do this, too. Why should her life stop, if it doesn’t need to?

    • Who ARE These People? says:

Would you openly brag about it and imply that others are suffering only because they, too, cannot jet off to private islands for group parties? As if that’s been the only problem she perceives? People are suffering, but not for the reasons she says. If her audience were limited to other rich, self-absorbed people – eh, fuck ’em. But she put this out for the world to see and she deserves everything she gets.

    • Arpeggi says:

If it wasn’t all sponsored at the very least! But no, it’s used to advertise stuff so she’s using other people’s wealth to pay for her bash. And her choices in this case are threatening other people’s health; all the service employees catering her needs as well as their families, the pilots, etc.

    • lucy2 says:

Because it’s a global pandemic, her actions affected a lot of people, and to just be a decent human in society?

    • paranormalgirl says:

I have wealth and means (though not Kardashian level wealth) and I’m choosing to be a caring and responsible adult and NOT traveling for pleasure if it puts others at risk.

    • CJ says:

It’s exactly this attitude that gets us Trump and his ilk. The concept of extreme individualism is what’s killing this planet – nobody exists entirely in their own world, everything that happens does have consequences and people need to wise the hell up to this.

Her life 100% should stop during a global pandemic – at least the travelling and large groups part of it. We’re in a global crisis and it’s disgusting how many people are basically saying someone else’s life is worth less than their temporary discomfort.

    • Teebee says:

“Need” is the operative word here.

In no rational universe is there a “need” for this vulgar display of privilege and entitlement. But yeah I guess the super rich gotta spend all that dough… but if there ever was a “need” to exercise extreme caution to protect yourself and OTHERS from a novel virus that continues to stymie health and medical professionals with its erratic behaviour… well it is now.

  30. Pamspam says:

    Celebrities…they’re just like us.

  31. Who ARE These People? says:

Wouldn’t it be something if these Fancy Flintstones held a super-spreader event…

  32. ME says:

    1. Kim in the past has tweeted about the environment and global warming, yet here she is renting a f*cking jumbo jet just to fly out 40 guests. Hypocrite.

    2. Kanye and North were just in Europe last week or so. Does anyone really believe they quarantined themselves upon return? Nope. In fact a few days after returning from Europe, North was hanging out with Penelope ! How can she guarantee those guests all quarantined for 2 weeks? Tristan can’t even keep his penis in his pants that long…no way he stayed in the house with Khloe for two full weeks lol…

    3. I doubt Kim paid for any of this. It was probably all entirely sponsored…were the E cameras there ? I wouldn’t be surprised if they were.

  33. Bananie says:

I think it’s hilarious she said this was out of reach “right now” as though the masses could afford a luxury beach vacation pre-Covid. 🙄

    • ME says:

Yup. Even how she said they just wanted to feel “normal” for a few days. Wow really? They have been travelling, vacationing, having parties, and doing everything normal since the pandemic began. What have they sacrificed ??? She’s so full of sh*t. Khloe is full of sh*t too. She admitted she had Covid and goes on to say people need to “stay safe”. Yet, here she is with Kim and the rest partying it up. Same with Kim. Kim said Kanye had Covid back in March and that she had to change his bed sheets every day wearing a face shield. LOL does anyone buy that ? Sure Kim…sure you did. Your poor maid on the other hand…

      • Lulu says:

Yes because traveling on private jets to a luxury resort on an island is how the majority of Americans “feel normal.” What out of touch trash she is. Her accumulation of wealth and how she flaunts it to the masses is shameful. Redistribute her wealth!

Also, her husband is actively trying to destroy our democracy by being a third party candidate and steal votes from Joe Biden. I’m done with Kim and Kanye. Don’t even get me started on his multi-million dollar forgiveable PPP Loan he received. Grifters! Traitors! F them both!

  34. LoonaticCap says:

Ironic. A friend of mine is doing a beach party for 40+ people in tents with a decent amount of recreational drugs and booze and no social distancing. I politely declined because… We wll know why. I wish her the best and no covid i really pray for all of them. However, I don’t approve.

Couldn’t care less about Kim but this is really tone deaf. They shouldn’t have posted it at all. Now deal with the backlash.
They will probably monetize all this press.

  35. shanaynay says:

It’s time to permanently CANCEL this whole family for good. They should be cancelled from everything. They are so trashy, and so delusional. Buh bye K-Klan!!!!! Beat it!!!

  36. Mignionette says:

How can this be a surprise when even someone like me who mutes the words “Kim Kardashian” on social media heard the plans ?

  37. Renee says:

She is so out of touch. She is a spoiled, entitled immature person with no regard for the safety and well being of others. She’s pathetic!

  38. Merricat says:

I mean, she needs a break from her daily life of luxury? Boo-freaking-hoo.

  39. mellie says:

If she REALLY NEEDED this trip, then she would have been better off not posting all the pictures etc…but these people cannot control themselves. So at the end of the day, it’s only about bragging/showing off/displaying their wealth, they have zero self-control when it comes to their ostentatiousness. It’s all about the pictures and the filters. That’s all they’ve got, vapid, empty lives and in return they are raising a bunch of young people who are going to be the SAME WAY, no matter how cute those kids are, we can only hope some of them grow up to break the mold.

  40. Maida says:

The humblebragging is what’s especially nauseating in her posts. You want to indulge yourself because you can, even though millions of people are losing their jobs, facing eviction, and getting sick? Fine. But don’t post about it on social media and ALSO tell us how “humble” you are.

  41. Lulu says:

Disgusting is the first word that comes to mind. This is why her show is cancelled. The world has changed and we all know we can live with out our weekly dose of Keeping up with the Kardashian Shennigans and we don’t need Kylie’s cosmestics or their latest product they are shilling because we don’t have anywhere to go during the pandemic and America’s priorities have shifted to much more serious things. Not to mention her disgusting display of wealth and materialism is repulsive to so many more people now after the pandemic and economic collapse and the social justice struggles we’ve experienced. Americans are literally getting killed in the streets in the name of social justice and she is off posing for pictures, endangering native people on a remote island. F her.

The thing that disgusts me the MOST is that she is off flouting social distancing and small gathering recommendations WHILE her shameful husband is trying to interfere in our democracy and election by stealing votes from Biden. Our government and country is about to fail and plunge into chaos if Trump is reelected with the HELP of her HUSBAND and she is off breaking all public health recommendations and flaunting it on social media as if she has no care in the world as her husband attempts to destroy our democracy. F Her. I will never watch her show ever again. Her only path to redemption is denouncing Kanye West and his interference in our election.

    TAX THE RICH.

  42. Veronica S. says:

“Humbled and blessed” “out of most people’s reach.”

What a tone deaf twatwaffle. I can’t wait to see her age badly.

  43. Leah says:

Lucky her. I spent my birthday marooned at home like everyone else because it was during the mandatory lockdowns in May. I’m not salty about it or anything because plagues happen sometimes every 100 years and it was safer/more responsible to stay low and locked up than be out where the virus was/is.

*cue the sad music* “though the window of my locked up world, I saw the buses going by, the buses going by. Where are they going to, empty like that omg it’s the one I used to go to work onnnnnn”

Seriously though, I have no effs left to give for these elitist clowns, esp for one who’s husband is trying to disrupt the election.

  44. Dizzy says:

    Eat the rich! Right on!

  45. Truthiness says:

    “People are dying Kim.”

  46. RoyalBlue says:

    #ThisIsGross

  47. TheOriginalMia says:

She’s tone deaf. No one is denying her right to celebrate her 40th, but we’re in the middle of a pandemic and there are millions suffering. Is she so far up her own ass that she really thought sharing these pictures would garner good will? Ridiculous. I’m glad she’s getting dragged.

  48. Misty says:

I don’t understand the rando photoshop on Kendall.
