High temperatures are expected for the NCAA Super Regionals this weekend, and Texas Tech athletic trainers are prepped for the heat to keep players cool.

“Turf temperatures got up to 160 degrees during last week’s games,” Bryan Simpson, head athletic trainer for Texas Tech Baseball, said.

Simpson said they really focus on keeping all the players hydrated.

“In the mornings, we give them packets full of vitamins and electrolytes,” Simpson said.

He said they also keep an eye on officials during the game to make sure they stay cool as well.

“We take ice towels out there. You have to remember that guy (the umpire) is on the field the whole time. They don’t get to take breaks like our catchers and pitchers,” Simpson said.

They still have student tickets left for the game. The first game is at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 9.
