96% of U.S. corn, 83% of soybeans planted

The USDA says 96% of this year’s U.S. corn crop is planted. That’s slightly behind the five year average of 97%. It’s been a rough planting season in some key U.S. growing areas with widely ranging weather issues. 86% of corn has emerged, also a little bit behind the normal pace of 87%. 68% of corn is in good to excellent condition, up 3% on the week.

83% of soybeans are planted, compared to 79% on average, and 58% has emerged, compared to 59% typically this time of year.

10% of winter wheat is harvested, compared to 7% normally in early June, and 87% has headed, compared to 85% on average. 49% of winter wheat is in good to excellent shape, 1% less than last week.

90% of spring wheat has emerged and 55% of the crop is called good to excellent, a week to week drop of 7%.

64% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent condition, up 1%.
