Explore a unique opportunity as an artist to showcase your work at the Crain Communications headquarters in Detroit. Located on the top floor of the Brewery Park Campus, owned by Crain, our office at 1155 Gratiot Ave. offers an exceptional venue for your art. As a global media company with offices worldwide, including Chicago and New York, Crain has 20+ industry-leading brands in its portfolio and 750+ employees. 

Artists are invited to submit up to five pieces for consideration, with a special emphasis on larger works – a chance to make a profound statement on our expansive walls! Encouraging sizes like 24×36, 36×36, 48×48, and beyond, we also welcome smaller works.

This continuous opportunity welcomes artists of diverse sizes, mediums, and skill levels, offering a platform to exhibit your artwork for a three-month duration. This program is led by our Facilities & Office Services department in partnership with Amanda Koss, Detroit-based artist and program curator. Applications are reviewed for the upcoming rotation with available slots, and artists will be notified as their turn approaches.

MEET THE ARTISTS

LISA

BROWN

Lisa comes from a family of artists and earned her art degree from Wayne State University. Following a decades long career in advertising as a creative director, she’s nota full-time artist with a studio and gallery in Davison, Michigan. She primarily uses acrylics, collage, and encaustics, preferring the spontaneity and immediacy of the medium. Her paintings are expressive and multi-layered with rich colors and bold brush strokes, exuding a sense of adventure that invites the viewer to share.

CALIMAN

Jael is a surrealist artist who works primarily with acrylic paint, having an interest in art every since she could hold a pencil. A principal theme in her paintings is each character has no real identity, unlocking the imagination of viewers to embark on a journey of self reflection. Capturing the ethereal sense of youth, her paintings serve as a timeless reminder of the beautiful naivety that can fade with time. Within each carefully crafted piece lies an invitation to find personal significance and embrace the beauty of interpretation. 

AMANDA
KOSS

Amanda is a Dearborn-based abstract expressionist and curator renowned for her innovative artwork. With a graphic design background, Amanda infuses creativity and precision into her multi-award-winning pieces, utilizing layers, textures, robot vacuums as paint brushes and found objects. Her avant-garde approach and fusion of contemporary and abstract elements make her work a perfect fit for interior designers seeking transformative and inspired aesthetics. 

Anita

Anita is a Detroit-based abstract artist with 16 years of immersion in the world of art. Her creations draw inspiration from the intense emotions and pure happiness of her childhood in Detroit, weaving a narrative that resonates with personal experiences. Through her art, Anita invites others to explore the abstraction of details and connect with the stories she seeks to tell.

Why watercolor? The transparency, the potential to glow in a sunset, the lightness and airiness of the medium, and the luminous colors were all part of what drew Shannon to the medium. Shannon is a self-taught artist who has benefited greatly from the teachings of Steve Mitchell, Maria Raczinska, and Scott Hubert.

John’s passion is heartfelt expression through the universal language of art, a “Cri du Couer.” John delves into vibrant colors, exploring socio-political themes and the curves and sensuality inspired by the human form. Drawn to humor, John approaches creations with the joyful creativity of a child, crafting everything from switch plate covers to vessel sinks to fused glass bathroom tiles, alongside paintings, sculptures, paintings and jewelry. John is an award-winning artist with a bachelor’s degree in fine art and a master’s degree in curriculum with an emphasis on creativity. John’s art has been showcased at galleries and exhibits including Scarab Club, Eclectic Twist, Ford, Sission, Atomic, Tokyo Aoba, Tangent, and Y-Arts.
