How many times do you enter passwords during a given day?

If the number sits somewhere around the double digits, a rumoured upcoming feature for Apple's MacBook could soon make your life that little bit easier.

According to MacRumours, Apple engineers are designing an auto-unlock function that would allow an iPhone to unlock a Mac when in close proximity, alleviating the need to enter a password on a protected computer.

The function would work in a similar way to how the Apple Watch currently gives the option to unlock your iPhone when in its vicinity, and is being touted for the Mac's upcoming iOS X 10.12 - likely to be previewed at Apple's WWDC 2016 event in June.

The Knock app for iPhone and Apple Watch already performs the same function as the rumoured feature, though it's a reasonable guess that the Apple-designed version will be simpler and cleaner to operate.

Of course, one thing that could bypass this altogether would be the inclusion of Touch ID into future generations of the MacBook - hinted at by the company through a patent released in 2014.

Our meaningless vote goes to the latter - we need more fingerprint integration to make us feel like we're James Bond breaking into a secret vault.
