York Hospital celebrates five-star ratings

YORK, Maine — York Hospital announced Monday that it has received a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for Overall Patient Experiences. CMS uses a five-star quality rating system to measure the experiences Medicare beneficiaries have with their health plan and health care system.

Out of more than 3,400 hospitals nationwide to receive star ratings in July, only 266 hospitals (less than 8%) received five stars, and York Hospital was one of only three in Maine to be recognized with five stars.

Earlier in 2020, York Hospital also received a five-star rating from CMS for Overall Hospital Quality. Out of 4,500 hospitals nationwide to receive star ratings, less than 10% — only 407 hospitals — received five stars.

CMS’ overall patient experience summary ratings are distinct from overall quality ratings and use criteria from 10 different Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey topics.
