Salinas Honor Roll: Adrienne Uribe

Roberto M. Robledo
The Salinas Californian
Adrienne Uribe home-schooled her son and liked teaching so much she entered the profession.

Name:  Adrienne Uribe

Job: 5th Grade Teacher

School:  El Gabilan Elementary

Education: I graduated from California State University at Monterey Bay in 2005 with a BA in Social and Behavioral Science and Emphasis in Geographic Information Systems.  I received my teaching credential from CalState TEACH in December 2015.

Years in education:  This is my third year in teaching and at my current job.

Why did you go into teaching?  I went into teaching after I spent a year homeschooling my son.  After I enrolled him in our neighborhood school, I realized how much I missed teaching.  I started substitute teaching at his school and was hooked.  I decided to pursue a career in teaching and have never looked back.

How did you end up in Salinas?  I moved here a year before I got married and transferred to CSUMB to finish my BA.  I have been here for almost 15 years.

Favorite part of the job: I love watching students' faces light up when they grasp a new concept, or persevere through a difficult concept only to discover that they truly are capable of learning things.  I also love the personal conversations I get to have with students and connecting with them.  It’s such a joy to be part of their lives.

Least favorite part of the job:  I dislike all the piles of paper that quickly accumulates.  But, most of all, I really don’t like anything that pulls me out of my classroom and away from teaching my students.
