Actress Tina Fey will receive Temple University's Lew Klein Excellence in the Media Award this fall, the university's School of Media and Communication announced Thursday.
Known best for her performances on Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock, Fey becomes the 16th recepient of the award and joins other prominent honorees including Matt Lauer, Anderson Cooper, Whoopi Goldberg and Wolf Blitzer.
In addition to attending the ceremony in Mitten Hall on Oct. 7, the Upper Darby native will address students at a reception. Fey did not attend Temple, but her brother, Peter, and late father, Donald, are graduates of Temple's media and communication school. The Fey family last year established a scholarship to support veterans at the school in honor of Donald Fey, who served in the military before studying journalism and receiving his degree in 1966.
"We couldn't be happier to host and honor such an incisive and staggeringly talented writer," Dean David Boardman said in a statement. "Ms. Fey and her family have already given back tremendously to our school, and I'm thrilled to bring her voice and her presence to our students directly."
Fey has won six Emmys and a Golden Globe award among other honors. She most recently co-wrote and co-produced Netflix's "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" and starred in "Whisky Tango Foxtrot."
