Advance HE welcomes the OfS report: Gravity assist: Propelling higher education towards a brighter future – Digital teaching and learning review

Alison Johns, Chief Executive, said, “I welcome this report and we are  delighted to have contributed to it.

“So fast and far-reaching has the impact of the last twelve months been on teaching and learning in higher education that is absolutely right to take stock of where we are now, what’s gone right and where we need to improve. From that reflection, we can all build on success and realise the opportunities that digital offers students, learners and staff.

“The report is rich in insights. One thing is certain, however, teaching and learning has changed for ever in higher education, catapulted into a far more blended experience where opportunities offered through digital complement the face-to-face experience.

"I would echo the recommendations of the report, highlighting three areas in particular:

  • Meeting staff development needs where staff are fully supported in leading and developing curriculum design, delivery and assessment, and using technology to its best advantage; the optimum use of digital applications starts with the pedagogy
  • Inclusivity so that no student is left behind through assumption or disadvantage
  • A strategic approach where digital is at the heart of institutional leadership, thinking and planning.

"Throughout the past 12 months we have worked closely  with our members to help enable their exceptional response to the pandemic and rapid pace of change in demanded. We remain fully committed to working in partnership to support individuals and institutions to provide sustainable, high quality, digitally-enabled student experiences."
