Jenna Wolf: Power to the peaceful

Jenna Wolf of The Lotus Room, For 12th & Broad
We the peaceful are far from powerless. We are sons and daughters, sisters and brothers, mothers and fathers — and we are a powerful force for change when we are unified in our desire for a better world.

I am a peaceful warrior.

I don’t own a gun and I never will.

I am learning to share what I have, I acknowledge that everyone is uniquely different and I aim to treat all living things with the utmost respect.

When I have to fight, I do it for our home, for our children and for those who have been made powerless.

I use my words as tools, not as weapons.

I do not take life, I give it.

In a thousand years, I will be the same — because at my essence, peace is the stuff I’m made up of.

If there’s anything I have learned from this short existence, it is that beyond all external appearances, at our very core, there is only one, fundamental energy that is keeping us all alive right now.

Can’t you feel it? Your pulse dancing through your veins.

That dance is your life, and everything you love about it. It is your freedom to experience the pleasure of a summer sunset, nosh on delicious meals and share time with your loved ones.

You are alive! Living on the only planet in our solar system known to support life like this. Do you know what a miracle you are?

I don’t know if it’s just these days or if the world has always felt so uneasy. But now, more than ever, what this planet needs is people who believe that peace is real, and that being a peaceful person is not a weakness, but rather our greatest strength.

While we may not be kings or dragon mother queens, we the peaceful are far from powerless.

We are sons and daughters, sisters and brothers, mothers and fathers — and we are a powerful force for change when we are unified in our desire for a better world.

But peace cannot be forced, it has to come from the inside — it has to start from within you.

I could give you a step-by-step guide on how to be a peaceful person, but I believe you already know how to be one.

Instead, I just want to tell you what an incredible being you are. How strong, kind, thoughtful and brave you have become after everything life has thrown your way.

I want you to know that I see your desire to create a better world for our children and the many generations after them.

I watch from two cars back as you share your hard-earned cash with the homeless man at the downtown stop light. I see you openly connecting with complete strangers while looking for Pokemon in your neighborhood. I don’t know you, but I hear your kind words, I feel your generosity, I’m watching your peaceful expansion.

You have not gone unnoticed, Nashville.

Continue building each other up, keep speaking kindly to yourself, keep standing up for what you believe in. Do not be afraid — you were made for this.
