Transportation Alert:
Capital Bikeshare launched electric bicycles in Fairfax County, Arlington and Washington, D.C., in March 2023. In Fairfax County, the new e-bikes are in circulation around stations in Merrifield, Reston and Tysons.
New E-Bike Features:
When you need to get from Point A to Point B with more than two feet but less than four wheels, borrowing a bicycle in might be your answer! Fairfax County currently has more than 70 Capital Bikeshare stations in Merrifield, Reston and Tysons, and is working to add approximately 40 more stations to the system.

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation held a virtual meeting on expanding the Capital Bikeshare network in the Mount Vernon District on Jan. 18, 2024. FCDOT staff presented information on 12 proposed bikeshare stations around the Huntington Metro Station, Fort Hunt Park and Mount Vernon Trail, along with general information about the bikeshare system and funding. The meeting included time for questions and feedback from attendees.

December 2022: FCDOT held two public meetings in December regarding expansion of the Capital Bikeshare system in Franconia and Providence Districts.

November 2022: The Fairfax County Department of Transportation was awarded Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) funding for the expansion of the Capital Bikeshare network in Reston, and has installed all but one station from the originally-planned 19 locations in 2021. FCDOT is constantly evaluating station locations and the number of rides taken to maximize access. To view the most current station locations, please see the Capital Bikeshare System Map. This grant is complete and the last station was installed in Spring 2023.
Fairfax County has been a Capital Bikeshare member jurisdiction since 2016, launching service in Reston and Tysons (Full release). Since then, the system has added additional stations and new locations in West Falls Church and Merrifield.
