Recently launched by Flex Connectors, the Quickwire offers a time-saving alternative to traditional junction boxes. The box is pre-wired so users just need to strip their cable to size, then, without further preparation, simply push it into one of the two power inlets until they lock in place. No need to guide or separate individual cores, just push and click.
After a bit of time to get acquainted with The Quickwire we asked our ambassadors what they thought of the product:
Jim was emphatic in his praise of the Quickwire system labelling it the fastest connection method he has come across in his 40-year career.
Jim Kerr, JK Electrical Services, Glasgow, Scotland:
“Having used the product on a recent lighting installation, I'm delighted to give it a big thumbs-up! I reckon Flex Connectors have struck gold here and believe that Quickwire will soon become well-known throughout the electrical trade as word of mouth spreads.
Size is the most immediate thing that I noticed. Other than the mini circular 5amp type, I don't think there are any other junction boxes this small.
I found Quickwire to be ideal for connecting downlights with a small cut-out hole. Then, there's speed at which connections can be made. This is the fastest connection method that I've encountered so far in my career, and I've been in the trade almost 40 years!
I would definitely recommend this to other electricians. I believe that, with a good marketing strategy, the product has the potential to eventually become an industry standard item.”
Stephen Power, Wexford Electrician, Wexford, Ireland:
Stephen also got on well with the Quickwire product – especially with its compact design. He would, however, like to see more versions of the product.
“My initial thoughts were the product looked compact and solid. I thought It was well labelled to help avoid mistakes and, because there were no screws or covers to take off, it would be quick and reliable - especially handy when working in attics and tight spaces etc.
The product’s compact design is the main thing setting it apart of other junction boxes on the market, also how quickly you can terminate the cables securely into place.
I would like to see a four-wire version for smoke alarms, as well as a version for flex and NYM-J. It would also be handy to have a clear way for probes to test the cables for voltage.
It does what it says on the box, it's quick, secure and compact and I would happily recommend this product to other electricians.”
Chris Collis, Marketing Manager at Voltimum (& former electrician)
Voltimum Marketing Manager may not have been on the tools for a few years now but he still has flashbacks to some nightmare rewires and downlight installations where he could have used a quick-fit solution like Quickwire.
"When I was asked to review the Quickwire prewired junction box I have to admit I fell into the old and quite stubborn mode that is sometimes typical of our industry and thought why would I need this?
As I was turning the product in my hands at my desk in the office I was struggling to see how this would help me with lighting installations. After a while though, I started to think back to all those tricky downlighter installations and rewires I tackled. A couple of them have literally left me scarred for life, taking hours longer than they were supposed to and one even involving a trip to hospital. If this piece of equipment had been around then I would probably have saved myself enough time to have conducted another job and not had my unfortunate trip.
The Quickwire prewired junction box is a great piece of kit that can be used for light commercial jobs when combined with the Quickwire splitter which could enable you to easily wire in five lights provided you have the right size of cable for that kind of load.
Apart from the obvious tricky installations where you just don’t have the room to install ceiling roses, this product has a lot of potential to save time and increase productivity for electricians.
This product would have definitely have been in my toolbox when I was installing. If there is anything out there that can help electricians save time during installation and is guaranteed to be reliable for a long time then it is a must have bit of kit."
We will update this page with more reviews as and when they are sent in.
