The Power of Fighting Cancer through Collaboration

The Power of Fighting Cancer through Collaboration

MD Anderson is the #1 Center for Cancer Care in the US. They serve over 130,000 patients each year and have a powerhouse research center. They publish 10 papers per day and their certified partners leverage their research and clinical trials to benefit the quality of care to their local patients. They aim to eradicate cancer.

“The best way to cure cancer is knowledge.” said Melanie Wong, Vice President of Strategy & Business Development at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. She should know as she works every day on their mission: “......to end cancer, everywhere.”

We all know how much the healthcare industry is rapidly evolving and transforming. MD Anderson not only has some of the best healthcare staff and research practices, they have embraced technology to change how they work for the advancement of their mission.

Approximately 39.6 percent of men and women will be diagnosed with cancer at some point during their lifetimes. Melanie's show-stealing customer keynote at JiveWorld demonstrated the power of collaboration to change people's lives -- through one of the world’s most respected centers devoted exclusively to cancer patient care, research, education and prevention. She shared how the use of Jive's collaboration hub as a single, unified, secure platform has helped advanced their mission -- and how effective it is across the network. It's where they communicate and collaborate around research, clinical trials and patient care activities. They are working together to improve the experiences and lives of patients nationwide, with access to the best knowledge and medical research available.

One of the key benefits of this approach is that a critical question only needs to be asked and answered once. That insight from the medical community then becomes part of MD Anderson’s important and vast institutional memory for all to leverage -- with visibility and searchability across members. It's completely inspiring to see how MD Anderson is embracing best practices like these that are so meaningful to improving patient care.

Last week, I had the pleasure of addressing MD Anderson and their certified partners at their annual meeting. A huge thank you to Melanie and all of the other heroes at MD Anderson, and their certified partners, who have dedicated themselves to this important fight! Elisa Steele - thanks so much for the post. I really like when you say "they [MD ANDERSON] have embraced technology to change how they work for the advancement of their mission." My experience tells me that the willingness to change how one does something to achieve a more desirable result is the difference between success and failure. Thanks again for the post!
