Golfer Reaches Milestone Not Once, But Twice at Sandia Golf Club

Sandia Golf Club Hole #10

Golf has a number of milestones that not everyone is lucky (or good enough) to get: that coveted Hole in One…making an Albatross…shooting your Age. Some golfers go their entire life without achieving any of those feats. At Sandia Golf Club in Albuquerque, New Mexico Larry Armijo achieved one of those amazing miles stones…not once, but twice. Larry shoot  his age (77) at the Scott Miller designed Sandia Golf Club that is consistently ranked amongst the Best Courses You Can Play in New Mexico by Golfweek Magazine. Not only that he came back again and two weeks later did it again! Amazing.

“As a younger man I used to be able to scores in the upper 70’s regularly and as I have aged it became a little tougher,” Larry told Troon.com. “A few of my friends over the years have “played it forward” and told me how they have once again started to enjoy the game. A few months ago I played it forward one tee and really started to enjoy the game again. I was hitting irons instead of 3 woods and 5 woods and remembered how it used to be. After a few months the scores started lowering and finally I shot my age. I was really excited and hope to keep the good scores going”.

“I have known Larry Armijo for the better part of 20 years now and on top of being an amazing ambassador for Sandia Golf Club he has always been a good player,” added Sandia general manger and director of golf, Matt Long. “I know golfers that are still searching for things like hole in ones but I know how difficult it is to shoot your age. Larry has now done it twice and if I were a betting man I would say this is just the start of many more to come.”
