Lowther and the wider Wheatley Group take fire safety very seriously.
Our factored owners who own properties in buildings where the Group’s Registered Social Landlords have carried out investment works can be reassured that the materials and systems used in our multi-storey investment programme meet and in many cases exceed Scottish building standards and regulations for this type of property.
The systems used are designed to prevent the spread of fire and they are manufactured with non-combustible materials. We carry out daily patrols in these multi-storey blocks with our local staff identifying and acting on any health and safety issue. This includes any fire risk.
These daily checks are supplemented by annual inspections by our technical staff, routine maintenance on all fire-fighting equipment and inspections by our partner Scottish Fire and Rescue.
We also provide advice to customers on how to prevent fire.
Home fire safety visit
A free home fire safety visit is quick and easy to arrange. It only takes around 20 minutes to carry out - but it could save your life.
You'll get safety tips and advice on how to avoid a fire breaking out - and what to do if it does. You'll even get free extra smoke alarms if you need them.
A fire officer from Scottish Fire and Rescue Service will pop out at a time which suits you and answer any questions you have about fire safety.

Follow these tips to make sure you stay safe at home.
- get a free home safety visit – call 0800 0731 999
- make sure you have a smoke alarm and it works.
- don’t leave rubbish or bulk items lying about communal areas – it’s dangerous
- always put cigarettes out properly in an ashtray
- switch off electrical appliances at the wall when you leave your home or go to bed.
Keep closes, foyers and stairwells clear
Leaving prams or other household items in closes, foyers or stairwells can put you – and everyone else – at risk of fire.
An unwanted mattress or chair can encourage deliberate fire-setting. They can also block people’s escape routes if there is a fire.
If you have a couch or a mattress you no longer need, don’t dump it on the landing, the back court or on the street. Your city council can collect bulk items such as beds, televisions, mattresses and fridges.
If you live in a flat, your factoring agent will tell you what day bulk uplift is and where to leave items to be picked up. Make sure you leave items at the agreed collection point.
If you live in a house you can book an uplift from the city council.
