Coastal Plain Hospital Review
Coastal Plain Hospital is located about an hour east of Raleigh in the city of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Operated under the umbrella of the University of North Carolina Nash Healthcare System, Coastal Plain has been serving the communities of Nash and Edgecombe counties since 1994. It offers inpatient substance abuse treatment and medical detox services for adults that can include acute psychiatric care for those with co-occurring disorders.
Accommodations and Food
The substance abuse rehab facility is located within a hospital environment and each gender-specific room has two twin beds and an ensuite bathroom. As Coastal Plain Hospital is a 50 bed facility, at this time, there are no private rooms available. Clients are served three meals a day, prepared by the hospital staff that are generally well balanced and nutritious. Most dietary restrictions and food allergies can be accommodated.
Treatment and Staff
Coastal Plain Hospital specializes in dual diagnosis treatment needs and is open to both voluntary and involuntary admissions into their facility. Treatment at Coastal Plain Hospital begins with an assessment that aims to develop individualized treatment plans to meet each client’s psychological, social and physical needs. After the initial evaluation with one of their counselors, there are daily meetings with the treatment staff to review and update each client’s treatment goals.
The length of stay depends on the person’s needs, but Coastal Plain is a short-term stabilization program. If necessary, the supervised medical detox phase lasts three to five days, on average. Primary care typically lasts from five to ten days, which is why they focus on maximizing the most out of the treatment they can provide in a short amount of time. Treatment consists of a combination of CBT based groups, individual therapy, structured recreation and educational classes
Led by psychiatrist, Dr. Ashraf Mikhail, MD, who serves as medical director, the clinical treatment team consists of registered nurses, CTRSs and LCSWs. As the facility is located at a hospital, they have licensed behavioral health specialists who can make assessments and referrals 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Extras
While there isn’t a formal family program, Coastal Plain Hospital knows that families can provide comfort and support to their loved ones in treatment, so there are designated visiting hours. They can also try to accommodate family’s scheduling needs if those hours are not convenient.
