About this ebook

‘OMG… Incredible… Once I started, I couldn’t put down and simply had to read in one sitting… I loved this fast-paced, captivating thriller and would happily give it more than five stars if I could… Definitely one of my favourite reads of this year.’ Nicki’s Life of Crime ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

You think you’re safe in your home. You’re wrong.

When Steph’s husband of thirty years, Andy, walks out with barely a word of explanation, she’s left alone in the family home. Both of her children moved out years before. And although her daughter visits often, it’s not enough. Her house doesn’t feel like the warm, happy, laughter-filled home it used to be.

Then she begins to hear noises in the night, finds open windows she knows she left closed, items moved. None of it feels right. She wants to believe it’s all in her imagination. After all, who would want to scare her? She’s never hurt a person in her life.

But then her front window is smashed, and a young man named Noah helps her fix it. He’s fallen on hard times and Steph impulsively offers him a place to stay. He reminds her so much of her beloved son, and she wants to help him. Also, if he is there, she won’t be home alone.

Before long Noah is living in her daughter’s old bedroom, paying rent, and getting his life back on track. Andy and her daughter are furious. But Steph feels secure at last, and that’s what matters.

Until the strange things start happening once more.

And Steph realises that someone is out to scare her…

She doesn’t feel safe, not safe at all.

A creepy set up for a truly twisty tale! Steph is alone in the marital home after her husband has left her and her children are grown and gone. Then strange happenings begin - who is doing this? Who wants her to move along? And of course there is the new tenant so we're off and running! Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!

“You think you’re safe in your home…You’re wrong” Rona Halsall has delivered another chilling and nail biting read with The Guest Room. A real page turner, it is always an adventure reading a book from her as she pulls you into the story bringing it all to life where you experience it all as her characters do. A great job has been done in creating a very tense and creepy atmosphere throughout and there were many times I jumped at the littlest noise as I read through the night. I was invested in our lead Steph and was empathic to her plight, although you do question her naivety at times. The twists and turns keep everything interesting and with writing that is engaging, makes for a really compelling read. I throughly enjoyed this book and I look forward to what Rona will give us next.

After her breakup of her marriage and her children all grown up and flown the nest. Steph lives on her own in the family home. At first, she enjoyed the freedom doing things that she enjoyed. She also started a new job at a Homeless shelter helping others. Which reminds her, of her son Max that left home ten years ago and never been seen again. When she returns home one day to sense that someone has been in the home. The house smells of cigarettes and others sinister things start to happen. She reports it to the Police but there is not much they can do. Even her daughter Bea offers her to come and stay at her home while her husband Mark is away on business. But Steph wants to stay in her own home, and she has to much work at the homeless shelter to even consider it. While she is working at a Homeless shelter, she meets Noah and young lad a student that has fallen on hard times. The accommodation that usually offers at the shelter is full, so she decides to offer Noah to stay at her home. After all she has loads of room and he reminds her of Max. But when he moves in. More weird things start to happen. Even a lot of strangers turn up at the door and all the things going wrong, seem to be pointed at Noah. Could it be him? Thanks once again, Bookouture for a copy of The Guest Room I have read most of Rona’s books and they never seem to disappoint. This one was a bit slow to start with became a compelling read which I really enjoyed and once again and ending I didn’t see coming. 4 stars from me.
