Christmas Greetings from Mr and Mrs Cutmore, Halstead (SA 24/1839/1) by Essex Record Office published on 2017-11-29T13:46:42Z It's last posting day - have you sent all your Christmas cards? I bet none of them were as special as these greetings, sent by Mr and Mrs Cutmore of 6 Neale Road, Halstead to Mr and Mrs Eves, possibly in Clacton-on-Sea. Today's recording is a bit long, but, trust us, it is worth listening through to the end for a lovely example of Essex accents. The recording was originally made onto open reel tape. We think it was sent some time in the 1960s, when reel to reel recorders started to become popular for home use. Now that many households have ways to record audio digitally, and instantly transfer files, it should be a lot easier (and free!) to do. Does that mean we are less likely to get around to it? Or does it make us value less the recordings received? Why not make a point of sending an audio postcard to distant loved ones (or just people you meet in the bus station) this year? Do you know anything about Cutmores in Halstead? Or maybe you know who lives at 6 Neale Road today? Is it still surrounded by undertakers? Get in touch if you can shed any more light on this delightful recording. Or maybe you have some open reels in the loft at home. Do you know what's on them? The Essex Record Office can preserve your old recordings.
