Giant birth control pack among protesters expected at Mitt Romney fundraiser in Troy

DETROIT, MI — Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney has an unusual new campaign critic, and she's following him to Troy tonight for a fundraising event hosted by Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder.

"Pillamina," a giant human-helmed package of birth control pills, recently began tailing Romney across the country on behalf of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, which is inviting supporters to join her this evening for a protest outside of the Troy Marriott.

"With the Michigan legislature debating a ban on abortion – and preventing women lawmakers from speaking out – what we're seeing in Michigan is exactly what we'd see across America under Mitt Romney," reads an invitation.

The pro-life Republican has said he would like to end federal funding for Planned Parenthood and see Roe v. Wade overturned, allowing states to consider abortion issues on an individual basis.

And, as "Pillamina" is expected to remind, Romney opposes the Obama administration mandate requiring most employers -- including religiously-affiliated schools and hospitals -- to cover birth control without co-pays in their health insurance plans.

Planned Parenthood should have plenty of company tonight, as the Michigan Democratic Party and various union representatives also are encouraging a strong opposition turnout.

"Michigan working families will rally outside of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s private fundraiser in Troy on Wednesday to hold him accountable for his position on the auto bailout," reads a press release distributed by the Michigan AFL-CIO.

Romney toured Michigan on Tuesday, focusing his energy on President Barack Obama during official campaign stops in Frankenmuth, DeWitt and Holland. He was expected to attend a fundraiser today in Grand Rapids before the 5 p.m. private event in Troy, which is only miles from his childhood home in Bloomfield Hills.
