Food glorious food! Top 5 Foods for ChEATing your Way to Beautiful

Chia Seeds: Don’t be fooled – these seeds may be tiny but they sure pack a fiercely nutritional punch!

Rich in antioxidants (the substances which protect cells against harmful free radicals), these superfood superstars are high in fibre which helps you feel fuller for longer. They’re also an excellent source of omega 3 fatty acids which boost hair health and growth too, leaving you looking radiant from head to toe, and full up until lunch.

How to use them… stir them into porridge or breakfast bowls, add them to cereal bars, or use as a thickening agent in soups and stews. Alternatively, visit the Dome Café in Buxton to try our lip-smacking Chia Nuggets.

Sweetcorn: Looking to boost your complexion? Sweetcorn is packed with vitamin C, which boosts your collagen levels.

High in vitamin B12, folic acid and iron, it helps with the production of red blood cells in the body, which in turn, helps to reduce the risk of anaemia. It is also said to be beneficial to pregnant women as the high fibre content promotes a healthy gut. Which goes to show that there’s nothing corny about sweetcorn.

How to use them… This vibrant yellow jewel is a versatile ingredient for many dishes. Not only does it make a great addition to salads, couscous and soups, a griddled corn on the cob drizzled with butter is a must-have at any get together.

Butternut Squash: It’s important to know your ABCs, but it’s more important to eat them…vitamins that is!

Not only is Butternut Squash high in beta carotene which acts as a great boost to your immune system, helping to ward off all the cold and germs lurking around at this time of year, they are packed full of vitamins A, B, C and E which help to maintain wellbeing along with healthy vision, skin, bones and other tissues in the body.

How to use them… Did you know that just three tablespoons of cooked Butternut Squash counts as one of your five-a-day? It’s great in soups and risottos or roasted with chilli flakes for a spicy hit. The Dome Café serves a mouth-watering Curried Butternut with Chickpeas which makes for a great winter warmer after a walk around Buxton.

Beans: A balanced, healthy diet which includes a generous helping of beans can be hugely beneficial to your general health and wellbeing.

From helping to reduce cholesterol, stabilising glucose levels, enhancing gut health and staving off hunger cravings, no matter what kind of keen bean you’re eating, they’re very likely to be doing you the world of good.

How to use them… Used in chilli con carne, burritos and stir frys or in a tasty salad, beans can be used to add texture, protein and flavour to a number of dishes. Why not try the Dome Café’s Five Bean Chilli as part of Veganuary to get your fill?

Olives: Rounding up the top five is the jewel in the Mediterranean’s crown, the mighty olive.

They’re sky high in vitamin E, which is found in large numbers of hair and beauty products for a reason. Well-known for its moisturising properties, vitamin E is also said to help your overall skin health, from reducing itching, healing wounds, reducing the appearance of scars and preventing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. So what are you waiting for? Help yourself to an extra slice of pizza – because you’re worth it!

How to use them… Scatter them in pastas and pizzas, crush them to make a yummy tapenade or bake into bread. Alternatively, visit the Dome Café and add olives onto your salad, sandwich or pizza at our salad bar.
