Dealing with a Slow Processing Speed in Our Fast Paced World

An Evening with Dr. Ellen Braaten
Thursday, March 8 at 6 pm in the
 HS Commons

Learn to Boost Your Child's Ability to:
  • Perform Better in School
  • Keep Pace with Friends and Family
  • Maintain Health Self-Esteem
Do you find yourself constantly asking your child to "pick up the pace?" Does he/she seem to take longer than others to get stuff done -- whether completing homework, responding when spoken to, or getting dressed in the morning.

STEM School Highlands Ranch presents an evening with Dr. Ellen Braaten , a Harvard Psychologist and well-known author who has worked with thousands of kids and teens who struggle with an area of cognitive functioning called "processing speed."

She will talk to parents and students about how to obtain the needed support, what to expect from a professional evaluation and how you can make daily routines more efficient while promoting your child's social and emotional well-being
Wish Week is Under Way

STEM National Honor Society (NHS) is partnering with the Make-a-Wish Foundation to host Wish Week, a week long fundraiser that raises money to send our assigned Wish Kid on the trip of their dreams.

This year our assigned Wish Kid is Jordyn, an 8-year-old girl that loves superheroes and wants to go on a Marvel Cruise. From  February 26th to March 3rd, NHS and Student Government will be hosting multiple events such as a staff-student basketball game, a winter dance, and a carnival to raise money for Jordyn's wish.

View the schedule of events for Wish Week here.

Reminder about Illnesses

Due to the vast amount of sickness that is present this winter, we would like to keep track of students who are going home ill from school. Please make sure to remind your child to go to the health room for an evaluation, as opposed to calling you first, if they are feeling ill. By doing so, we will have a more accurate indicator of how many students are going home and what symptoms they are being sent home with. Thank you for your cooperation.

Looking for Volunteer Hours?

STEM FEST will be on  April 28 and promises to be a fun, school-wide event the entire family will enjoy! One fundraiser leading up to STEM FEST is called Fund-a-Need. This is an opportunity for teachers and administrators to ask for items they need at school and for parents to help fulfill those needs through donations via a cell phone bidding system. Multiple families will contribute to each item, allowing families to donate whatever amount works for them. We need your help to make these events successful! We are looking for people to acquire silent auction items, volunteer during the event, and other jobs that will be added as we continue the planning. Your help is crucial to making large events like this possible!  Please volunteer!
