What Does Activities of Daily Living Consist of?

Bathing – Personal Care either in a tub or shower
Dressing – Putting on and off any items
Continence Care – Ability to maintain control of your bowel and bladder function.
Eating – Ability to feed oneself by getting food from receptacles such by using a plate, or a feeding tube.
Toileting – Ability to get to and from the toilet, getting on and off the toilet and performing associated personal hygiene.
Transferring – Moving into or out of a chair, bed, car or wheelchair.

Can a caregiver assist my father with his medication?

A licensed caregiver can remind a patient to take their medication. Under the State of Florida LPNs and RNs are able to administer medication and provide medication management. A home health aide or a certified nursing assistant can only remind a patient to take medications. A CNA or HHA cannot even fill a pill box. Often times a family member fills pill boxes or a spouse and then the caregiver just reminds them to take the medicine as instructed by the doctor.
