Numerous other chemicals besides cyanide have been tested to leach gold, and include sodium thiosulfate, thiocyanate, ammonia, bromine, chlorine, bisulfides, and thiourea and others, but almost all processes still involve the use of highly toxic chemicals, dangerous oper- ating environments, high temperatures, limited applicability and are not used for economic or technical reasons. No one has come up with cost-effective method other than leaching with cyanide until now." HM X-leach, says Nelson, "offers a cost effective alternative to cyanide for ores, tailings, flotation concentrates and grav- ity concentrates." A key point in X-leach's favour is, according to Nelson, "...many mining projects that have been unable to secure operating permits for a cyanide based extraction process may very well proceed with the use of the HM X-leach product." "To our mind, apart from additional testing in the field, which is planned shortly, we feel the X-leach is near ready for commercialization, which is why we have applied for patents for the pro- cess and formula on the X-leach," stated Nelson. Nelson told Resource World, "We will always be looking for new innovative means to develop technologies for the mining sector, however at this time, we have three patent-pending tech- nologies, HM X-tract, HM X-mill and HM X-leach that we are fully involved with." n James Wie, completing independent analysis of the HM X-leach at the Met-Solve Laboratories in Langley, British Columbia. photo courtesy of mineworx. "HM X-leach is a more effective, safer and faster alternative to the standard toxic cyanide leaching which currently dominates the industry" said Duane Nelson
