Montana Surrender Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 304 ratings

Jessica has far too many worries on her mind to be distracted by the sexy on-the-run outlaw, Storm. And Storm has no time to pursue the beauty who invades his hideout; he has to clear his name. Too many barriers stand between the two of them to ever fall in love. Or can they overcome the obstacles?

Backed into a corner after an unexpected spring blizzard decimates her already declining herd of cattle, Jessica knows she has no choice. Despite her vow to never touch the hidden gold — gold she feels is cursed — she can't meet the looming payment on the ranch she inherited from her father. There's no chance of a mortgage extension, either. The bank manager has already assured her in no uncertain terms he won't risk his bank's precious money any further on a woman running a spread. Lord, she should have spit in the manager's face, as her foreman had thought she would!

There has to be more than one rifleman in the ambush that ambushes Jessica and her men. But only one paint horse and rider are silhouetted against the setting sun. And only one person — Jessica, the lone woman in the group of cowboys — sneaks out of camp that night to search for her runaway horse. She's not afraid of ghosts, like the men appear to be. It's not ghost arms that capture her on the hillside, though. Definitely not a ghost that haunts her thoughts and dreams from then on as she tries to save her ranch.

Montana Surrender reads like a good old action packed Western movie. Trana Mae Simmons understands the wild land, its untamed characters and brings their complex stories to life. Romantic Times Magazine

A wild and adventurous shoot-em-up ride through the Old West, filled with unexpected plot turns and an intriguing cast of unusual characters a reader will remember long after the last page has been read. A winner! Michalann Perry, Zebra Books Author

This books was a gift years ago but just had to do a review to let others know, It's a great read.

This was a good paced, all action story. Jessica was certainly a plucky woman, there didn’t seem anything she wouldn’t try. When she met Storm they had this instant connection. However, there are many things in their way to a possible happy ending and some secrets to uncover. There are a couple of villains to add interest. This was an entertaining story that kept my interest to the end as I wasn’t sure how exact it would pan out. My only negative was, no epilogue, I do like to know how things worked out. I received a copy via eBooks Discovery and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I read this one after I had read book 2 but I found I didn't like it as much. Firstly the hero's name -Storm. Secondly I thought it rather far fetched how the relationship between all the characters worked out. Thirdly, the ending. It just didn't equate to the hero's sense of protection for the heroine that events would proceed without first establishing his innocence. (No spoilers).
Jessica rides into an unfamiliar town with her ranch foreman Ned. They are searching for hidden gold as described by her deceased Uncle Pete. Storm, having served six months of a twenty year sentence for a crime he did not commit, has broken out of prison and is in hiding. Events conspire to bring them together.

I really liked this story starting Jessica and a loving uncles death to setting out to find gold hidden years ago.
Storm had been adopted but his two step brothers made sure he was found guilty of rape and murder which made him an outlaw.
They met when he was in hiding and and she was on the hunt for gold.
This is the First time I have read from this author and it won't be the last as I enjoyed the story from the start to the very last page, such a lot happens in this book.
I have read quite a few western romances in the past, so I do love a good one.
I received this book from ebook discovery. I voluntary review this book. This is my honest review.

Western Romances are a wide field from Mail Order Brides to more complex books. Trana Mae Simmons belongs at this end of the spectrum. The story is well written with rounded and interesting leads and good secondary characters and an interesting plot line with some good surprising twists, without defying probability. I particularly like the well-researched details that showed a lot of research, but a writing style that did not let the details distract from the story. Much to be recommended.

A galloping read about a cowboy wrongly accused and a fiesty gal who finds herself falling for him and wanting to help him clear his name. Jessica can ride, shoot and rope like a man, yet has a soft heart for the underdog. Storm has been in hiding since escaping prison, as he tries to clear his name. There are a handful of side characters fleshing out the storyline, including two nasty bad guys who darken the tone of the book. The pace rarely slows and the storyline is good enough, with a few twists, to keep everything flowing. I received a copy of this free from ebookDiscovery. This is my freely given honest opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful Western romance with a bit of mystery
Reviewed in the United States on 29 August 2015
I love Trana Mae Simmons' writing and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The heroine, Jessica Callaghan, was referred to as a "spitfire" and a "wildcat," and she i feisty, complex and totally believable. The plot was engrossing and grabbed me from the first page. I loved the idea that Jessica was on a mission to find lost gold to maintain the ranch and she wasn't going to let anything stand in her way; She was fearless, but never arrogant and had a warmth and humility that I found very appealing. She refuses to be intimidated by the eerie voice that urged her to "Go back There is evil here," even though the men in the group were afraid to venture out.

One thing I particularly like about Ms. Simmons's writing is that she creates a keen sense of place. She adds exactly the right amount of detail to draw the reader into the scene. I felt as though I really was in Montana in the nineteenth century. I could feel the early morning dew on the bedcovers, the tendril of mist crawling down the hillside, the small town of Baker's Valley with its General Store and women strolling the wooden walkways in gingham bonnets/

The romance element in this book is sensuous and the chemistry between Jessica and Storm is unmistakable. I loved this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars I liked it. Could use improvements in my opinion.

First, there are a lot of characters to keep straight. Second, it got a little long. A few less trials and tribulations would have been great with me. Third, the bloodlines of the H & H seemed at first to be in question. I sat down with pen & paper after reading the book and painstakingly detailed family trees for all of the characters. There shouldn't be that much confusion in a story. Good news - No one is related to anyone in a nefarious way. ☺ I'm not sure why it was necessary to have even developed the story in such a way in the first place. All in all I did like this historical romance.

This story is full of cowboy action. It goes from one harrowing scene to another nonstop. If you like fast moving stories with plenty of western style action and a love story or two, you'll enjoy this story.
