Dabo Swinney dons mustache, goes 'undercover' to check out ops center

Dabo Swinney has danced and dabbed his way to one viral video after another. But in his latest move, Swinney traded his dance shoes for a fake mustache, hard hat and new identity.

Say hello to Fred from Albuquerque, who has a star turn in Clemson's version of "Undercover Boss." Swinney, err, Fred, decided to get an inside peek at ongoing construction of Clemson's new football operations center. The best way to check up on the construction workers? In disguise, naturally.

Except it wasn't much of a disguise. Fred didn't hide his accent, or his love for Clemson, rattling off all the cool things the new facility will have, from the weight room to the indoor slide to the "big ol' locker room!" With a straight face one worker turns to the camera and says, "Yeah it's pretty obvious Fred is Dabo Swinney."

Fred keeps up with the charade until the end, when he breaks the news to the gathered workers that he's really Swinney, peeling off the mustache and taking off the hard hat.

"We figured it out the second you got here," one worker replied.

"The looks on their faces when I told them who I am! Priceless! I really had them fooled!" Swinney tells the camera.

Swinney has made no bones about being exactly who he is as Clemson head coach. Playing Fred from Albuquerque reinforced that once again. The motto at Clemson is "best is the standard." The Clemson social media folks have clearly taken on that mantra as well, finding unique ways to go behind the scenes of their football program without taking themselves so seriously. Winks, nods and laughs are all part of the story.
